CBI informs Supreme Court probe into YS Vivekananda Reddy’s murder completed

The CBI informed the Supreme Court that the investigation into murder of former minister Dr YS Vivekananda Reddy has been completed. During hearing on the issue of cancellation of anticipatory bail of YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy, it said that it will continue the further investigation if the Apex Court orders it.

Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing Viveka’s daughter Dr. Sunitha, sought time for the investigation as he was in the middle of arguing another case. With this, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing.

The bench of Justice M.M. Sundaresh resumed the hearing on the murder case of Vivekananda Reddy after some time. Siddharth Luthra said that they are ready for the arguments. However, Justice Sundaresh said that the bench would not continue after the lunch break and said that the hearing would be held on another day. With this, the hearing was adjourned to the 19th of this month.

On the 21st of last month, the Supreme Court had ordered the investigating agency CBI to provide clarity on 3 issues during the hearing. The Supreme Court had made it clear that it would only then proceed with the hearing on the bail cancellation petitions of the remaining accused, including Avinash Reddy.

As per the order of the Supreme Court, the CBI informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday about the status of the investigation. During the previous hearing, the bench had asked the CBI to state whether it felt that further investigation was necessary in the Viveka murder case.

It had also asked the CBI to express its opinion on the closure report filed by the AP government in the Kadapa Sessions Court against Sunitha and Narreddy Rajasekhar. Further, it had also asked the CBI to express its opinion on whether the investigation and further investigation in the Viveka murder case can be continued simultaneously.

It may be recalled that the Telangana High Court had previously granted bail to several accused in the murder case, including Avinash Reddy. Sunitha and the CBI challenged the bail orders given by the High Court in the Supreme Court. Siddharth Luthra had earlier told the Supreme Court that Avinash Reddy and all the other accused on bail were influencing witnesses.

He asked the court to consider the closure report filed by the Andhra Pradesh government in the case registered against Viveka’s daughter Sunitha and her husband and CBI officer Ram Singh, who is investigating the murder case.
