Cabinet Sub-Committee Chairman and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy revealed that the state planning department’s survey has calculated that the BC population in Telangana is 46.25 percent, and if Muslim BCs, who are 10.08 percent, are included, the total is 56.33 percent.
He said that while the total population of the state is 3.70 crore, 16 lakh people (3.1 percent) did not participate in the survey, while the details of the remaining 3.54 crore people have been collected.
It is known that a house-to-house survey (social, economic, education, employment, political, caste) was conducted under the auspices of the state planning department last November as per the government’s orders. The report related to the survey was submitted to the ministerial sub-committee headed by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy in the form of a book on Sunday.
On this occasion, the subcommittee co-chairman Damodar Rajanarsimha, members Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Minister Seethakka held a special meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday to discuss the survey report. The cabinet subcommittee discussed it with Planning Department Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, State Nodal Officer Anudeep Durisetty and a team of officials.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy revealed the details of the survey report in a press conference organized later. He said that completing the caste census within 50 days is historic. He said that out of the total population of 3.70 crore people in the state, 3,54,77,554 (96.9 percent) of them were surveyed and details were collected. He said that 3.1 percent of families did not disclose their details.
He explained that due to problems like 1.03 lakh houses being closed, 1.68 lakh families initially hesitant to participate, and 84,137 houses being uninhabited, a total of 16 lakh families were not collected. He said that the data will be used to effectively implement welfare programs. He revealed that the survey report will be discussed and approved in the cabinet meeting on the 4th and will be put up for discussion in the assembly on the same day.
The state cabinet meeting chaired by CM Revanth Reddy will be held at 10 am on the 4th. A special assembly meeting will be held at 11 am on the same day. The cabinet meeting will discuss the comprehensive house-to-house caste census survey report submitted by the Planning Department to the Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
