After four days of rains and floods while Vijayawada citizens taking relief on Wednesday, they are again worried over growing flood water flows into Budameru and also IMD predicting another low pressure warning on Thursday.
As people are worried over the growing flow of flood water, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has assigned the task of monitoring and protecting Budameru bunds to minister Nara Lokesh. Budameru received a flow of 1,000 cusecs on Tuesday, but officials are expecting a flood of 8,000 cusecs on Wednesday. Flooded areas have been alerted before.
Due to the high level of flood, the works of protecting its bunds are being hampered. Farmers say that the main reason for the floods is the illegal soil mining during the previous YCP government. Officials advise people to be vigilant.
Nara Lokesh asked the authorities about the holes that fell on the right and left sides of Budameru and got the full details. A review was conducted with the authorities on the measures to be taken to fill the pits as soon as possible. Lokesh left for Budameru to supervise the excavation works.
Under the supervision of Minister Lokesh, the relief operations in Vijayawada are continuing on a war footing. Today, 1200 TDP workers distributed tiffin and milk to flood victims in the morning. In 36 flood-affected wards, relief programs are being carried out under the leadership of ministers and MLAs.
Budameru in Nandivada mandal of Krishna district continues to see a record level of water flow. The people of the flooded areas say that the Budameru has never flowed this much in the last 30 years. In Puttagunta, the flood water reached four kilometers on both sides of the road. As a result, many villages were cut off from the outside world.
Also, the Budameru flow continues in the most dangerous condition in the Aripirala. There is water flowing a foot away from the embankment. The people of Budameru catchment villages are in panic with the increasing flood water.
3000 people were moved to the rehabilitation centers by the authorities. Thousands of acres of rice crops were submerged. In many places, the fish ponds were flooded.
Meanwhile, the flood surge has receded at Prakasam Barrage. At 7 am, the inflow and outflow at Prakasam barrage was 4,81,694 cusecs, said disaster management organization MD Ronanki Kurmanath. At Prakasam Barrage the second danger alert was withdrawn, but the first danger alert is ongoing.
