Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has revealed that his recent film Laal Singh Chaddha, in which he played a central role, has resulted in losses exceeding ₹200 crore. In a candid YouTube interview, he explained that while he typically exercises extreme caution with film budgets, his overconfidence in this project led to miscalculations. “Until now, all my films had been hits, and that confidence influenced my expectations for this movie. Unfortunately, my estimates were off, and failing to set proper budget limits contributed to the losses,” Aamir said.
He further detailed that the film’s budget planning had anticipated earnings of ₹100–200 crore domestically, based on comparisons with Dangal’s ₹385 crore collections. Pandemic restrictions forced the team to shoot abroad, increasing travel costs. Additionally, a major table tennis sequence filmed in China was ultimately cut from the final edit, resulting in significant wasted expenditure. Aamir noted that rising production costs post-COVID also impacted the overall budget.
Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Naga Chaitanya, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Manav Vij, failed to meet audience expectations despite the high-profile cast and extensive promotions. The film’s underperformance follows a series of financial setbacks for Aamir, including substantial losses reported during the making of Maidaan.
