Jamie Lever, daughter of renowned Bollywood comedian Johnny Lever, recently spoke candidly about the challenges she has faced regarding colorism and harassment, both in her personal life and film career.
In a recent interview, Jamie revealed that she has endured criticism and discrimination based on her darker complexion. “I have never been insecure about my skin tone, but many have passed harsh judgments. Comments like ‘You are unattractive,’ ‘You look like a ghost,’ and predictions that I would struggle to find work in the industry were common,” she said. She added that people often suggested she use beauty products to lighten her skin, reflecting a broader societal issue. “Many believe success requires a fairer complexion. Colorism remains a significant problem in our society,” Jamie remarked.
She also disclosed that criticism extended to her body shape, sometimes coming from even family members.
Jamie further shared a distressing incident from her school days involving harassment. “While studying, a person tried to trouble me and my friend, causing me great fear. Additionally, a school bus attendant behaved inappropriately towards the children, making the environment unsafe,” she recounted.
Jamie Lever has established herself in Bollywood with notable appearances in films like Housefull 4 and Boot Police. In 2024, she expanded her career into Tollywood with the release of Aa Okkati Adakku.
