Since joining the Congress party, Sharmila has engaged in a fierce political battle with her brother on all fronts. In addition to launching scathing criticisms against Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government, she has also personally attacked him.

Now, Sharmila is gearing up to challenge YS Avinash Reddy in the upcoming elections. It is widely known that Jagan Mohan Reddy has once again nominated Avinash as the YSRCP candidate for the Kadapa Parliament segment. This decision by Jagan has sparked discussions in political circles due to allegations that he has been shielding Avinash, who was one of the suspects involved in the plot to assassinate Vivekananda Reddy.

Reportedly, Sharmila has decided to outmaneuver her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy by running as the Congress candidate for Kadapa MP. In January, Vivekananda’s daughter Sunitha met with Sharmila for approximately two hours. Reports emerged that Sharmila offered moral support to Sunitha and extended an invitation for her to join the party. The election code came into effect after the announcement of the schedule of Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in AP. With this, the Election Commission guidelines have stated what political parties, employees, and others should and should not do. Everyone should follow these rules. The first action against code violation started from remote Srikakulam district. An employee who violated the election code was fired. This is the first election of EC in the state after the election code. VRO K. Ramesh of Kothur mandal, Dimili village of Srikakulam district has been suspended by EC.

Accordingly, the Collector Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon issued orders suspending Ramesh on Sunday. These steps were taken on the basis of a report given by the Sdhanika Tehsildar that Ramesh had recently participated in the election campaign on behalf of the ruling YCP.

According to the Collector’s order, after a thorough inquiry into the allegations leveled against Ramesh under the violation of the election rules, the suspension has been revoked. Moreover, the district collector directed the officials to take disciplinary action against him.

The EC has already warned that the implementation of the code will be strictly monitored during the release of the election schedule and action will be taken against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing. Special teams have also been set up to monitor violations of the Election Code.

In this background, the news that VRO from Srikakulam district participated in the election campaign on behalf of YCP, and the investigation of the facts in the field came to light.

Telangana Governor Tamilsai Soundararajan Resign

Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has resigned from her post on Monday. She submitted her resignation letter to President Droupad Murmu. Reports suggest that she is likely to contest on a BJP ticket in the Lok Sabha elections from Chennai South, Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Soundararajan is anticipated to be included in the BJP’s forthcoming list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Dr. Soundararajan, 62, was sworn in as the then-fledgling state’s second Governor in November 2019 and was given additional charge as Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry in February 2021.

Sources said she might re-join the BJP and be fielded from any one of three Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu, including the Thoothukudi seat currently held by the ruling DMK’s Kanimozhi.

Dr. Soundararajan contested the 2019 election from this seat but was handily beaten. She also contested the Chennai (North) seat in 2009 and lost that as well, to TKS Elangovan of the DMK.

A gynaecologist by profession, she entered politics with the BJP in 1999. She played a key role in the spread of the BJP in Tamil Nadu as its state general secretary, national secretary, and state president.

According to sources, Dr. Tamilisai took the decision after informing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had stayed put at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday night. She expressed her desire to return to active politics by fighting the Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier in February, she expressed her desire to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Puducherry but said it was up to Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to decide her role. “My desire is to be a people’s representative, but I will abide by the decision of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.”

Dr. Tamilisai had made these comments with the media in Puducherry on the completion of her three-year term as the lieutenant governor. She said she would prefer Puducherry, as she always felt it was her hometown.

Even before the bifurcation of the state, the polling dates in the Telangana region used to differ from those in the present Andhra Pradesh region. Typically, the Election Commission conducts Telangana polls in the first phase and AP polls later. However, for the first time, both states’ polls are scheduled to be held on the same day in the fourth phase, on May 13.

This decision was mainly prompted by repeated complaints from the YSRCP that individuals residing in Greater Hyderabad, but originally from AP villages, were voting in two places. After casting their votes in Hyderabad, they were allegedly traveling to their villages in AP to vote again, with many of these votes favoring the TDP.

To prevent TDP supporters from casting votes in two states, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy insisted on holding polls on the same day in both states. It appears that he has succeeded in this effort.

However, BJP leaders in Telangana now anticipate that voters from AP may favor their party this time due to their alliance with the TDP and the BRS being out of power. They are concerned whether these voters will stay in Hyderabad to vote for them or travel to AP villages to vote for the TDP.

Given their dissatisfaction with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s regime in AP, BJP leaders suspect that many voters may opt to go there to vote against Jagan. If this occurs, they fear losing a significant number of votes.

According to estimates, in such a scenario, BJP’s Etela Rajender may lose approximately one lakh votes in the Malkajgiri constituency. Even Union Minister and State BJP Chief G Kishan Reddy may face challenges in the Secunderabad constituency.

The present scenario appears to favor the Congress, which performed poorly in Greater Hyderabad during the Assembly elections, losing all seats. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is now focusing on attracting defections from the BRS, particularly from Greater Hyderabad, in an effort to win at least two Lok Sabha constituencies. If Revanth succeeds, it would deal a significant blow to the BJP.

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that both YSRCP and Congress are the same, headed by persons from the same family in the state, Congress has revealed its moves to ensure a hard hit on Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s bastion, Kadapa.

Unlike Modi, who has formed an alliance with TDP but is showing interest in YSRCP, Congress seems to be on a warpath with Jagan’s regime. To confine him to his home district, it has reportedly decided to field his sister and APCC chief YS Sharmila from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency.

Though Sharmila is hesitant to contest against her family members in the polls, with pressure from the AICC leadership, she is said to be convinced of the need to be in the fray. However, no official announcement has been made on this, but there is significant discussion going on within Congress circles.

Congress sources indicate that the party is likely to release its next list of candidates on March 25, which may include several names from Andhra Pradesh. The Central Election Committee meeting of the party will be held on Tuesday, where the matter of MP candidates from AP and Telangana states is expected to be finalized.

It is known that YS Avinash Reddy, Sharmila’s cousin brother, is the sitting MP from Kadapa and is again contesting as a YSRCP candidate. He is the prime accused in the murder case of Chief Minister’s uncle, YS Vivekananda Reddy.

Initial reports suggested that Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter, Dr. Suneetha Reddy, is likely to contest as a TDP candidate from Kadapa against Avinash Reddy. However, she stated that she is not interested in entering politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the first election rally organized by TDP-Janasena-BJP was disappointing. There is dissatisfaction among both the people of the state and the TDP-Janasena cadre.

Despite repeatedly urging voters to support the NDA alliance, the Prime Minister failed to mention any specific support from the Center for the state’s development. Leaders and activists from the three parties had anticipated Modi presenting a roadmap for the state’s development, which they feel has been neglected during the past five years under the YCP regime.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi barely mentioned Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s name, except once, and appeared to show a soft corner towards him. This is noteworthy because in 2019, after Chandrababu Naidu exited the NDA alliance, Modi had used harsh language against the then-chief minister, accusing him of treating “Polavaram” as an ATM.

However, Modi’s speech did not address the corruption cases against Jagan Mohan Reddy or his alleged financial mismanagement. There was also no mention of political victimization against opponents or the deteriorating law and order situation.

Some time ago, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had described Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy as the adopted son of Prime Minister Modi at a meeting in Anantapur district. Modi’s attitude suggests he still views Jagan as a natural ally, albeit due to political compulsions arising from the alliance with TDP.

Modi remained silent on contentious issues such as the completion of the Polavaram project, the construction of the AP Capital, and the privatization of the Visakha Steel Plant, in which his government needs to play a crucial role. Despite the meeting being organized by TDP and the majority of the crowd being TDP supporters, it appeared that BJP leaders had taken control of the stage management.

A BJP functionary remarked that the Prime Minister’s speech seemed more appropriate for a BJP-ruled state rather than an opposition-ruled one. Modi focused heavily on criticizing Congress, whose vote share is comparable to NOTA, rather than the ruling YSRCP.

His allegation of collusion between Congress and YSRCP, with Congress attempting to divide anti-government votes, was not appreciated even by BJP cadre.
