High Court Rejects YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy’s Anticipatory Bail petition In Liquor scam

In a major setback to YSRCP Lok Sabha leader Mithun Reddy, the AP High Court has dismissed his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the AP liquor bribery case. The court has made it clear that anticipatory bail cannot be granted at this stage. MP Mithun Reddy is the A4 accused in the liquor bribery case.

Senior advocate Siddhartha Luthra, appearing for the CID/SIT, argued in the High Court that the liquor orders and supply system was previously transparent through the online system, and MP Mithun Reddy (A4) played a key role in bringing it to a manual system. He said that liquor supply permits were given only to companies that received bribes.

He said that the liquor scam during the YSRCP government caused a loss of Rs. 3,500 crore to the state exchequer. He argued that Mithun Reddy played a major role in diverting the money and acted as the mastermind of the liquor scam from the time it was planned to its execution. He also explained that evidence related to this has been found.

He told the court that if Mithun Reddy is arrested and interrogated, it will be known where the bribe money ultimately ended up. It was brought to the court’s attention that Rs. 5 crore was deposited in the bank account of Mithun Reddy’s family’s PLR Projects Private Limited from Dekart Logistics Private Limited (A16) as bribes.

He said that gold ornaments were purchased with the money received through bribes. He also said that Mithun Reddy has a criminal record and that 8 cases have been registered against him. Luthra urged the court to dismiss Mithun Reddy’s petition, saying that he was ineligible for anticipatory bail.

Senior advocate T. Niranjan Reddy arguing on behalf of MP Mithun Reddy said that the petitioner had nothing to do with the liquor policy brought by the government and that Mithun Reddy was not a director of PLR Projects. He said that there was no evidence to suggest that the petitioner had committed any crime except the testimony of a witness that the Rs.5 crore received by PLR from Decard Logistics was paid back to that company.

After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court recently reserved its verdict and issued orders on Tuesday dismissing the anticipatory bail petition.

A.M. Rathnam Recreates Charminar for Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu’

Pawan Kalyan’s long-awaited historical action drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu is all set for a grand pan-India release on July 24. Directed by Krish and Jyothi Krishna and produced by A.M. Rathnam, the film has completed all production and post-production formalities.

Speaking about the ambitious scale of the project, producer A.M. Rathnam revealed that a life-sized replica of Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar was specially erected for the film. “We could have taken Kalyan garu to shoot for a few hours near the real Charminar, but we couldn’t capture the scenes the way we envisioned. So, we recreated the monument on a massive scale to shoot key portions,” he said.

Rathnam also mentioned the construction of an authentic 17th-century harbour set for the film. “We designed the set to reflect the ports of that era, making the audience feel like they’ve stepped back in time,” he added.

The makers stated that Pawan Kalyan’s portrayal of Veera Mallu will be introduced through two contrasting sequences, offering fans a feast of visuals. Director Jyothi Krishna recently revealed that the character was inspired by legendary actors NTR and MGR. “When I was writing the script, people had already started seeing Pawan Kalyan not just as an actor but as a leader. That sentiment influenced several scenes,” he explained. The film also features custom-designed weapons to match the grandeur of the character.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu will be released in two parts. The first part, titled Sword and Spirit, is set to hit theatres on July 24. Reports indicate that a portion of the second part has already been filmed.

The star-studded cast includes Bobby Deol, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nargis Fakhri, Nora Fatehi, and Sathyaraj in prominent roles. The film has received a U/A certificate from the censor board, with a runtime of 2 hours and 42 minutes.

Karnataka Government Proposes ₹200 Cap on Movie Ticket Prices Across Theatres

The Karnataka government has issued a draft notification proposing a cap of ₹200 on movie ticket prices across the state, inclusive of entertainment tax. The price ceiling will apply uniformly to all films—regardless of language—and across all types of theatres, including single screens and multiplexes.

The draft notification follows Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s announcement during the presentation of the 2025–26 state budget earlier this year, where he emphasised the need to make cinema more accessible to the general public. As part of the initiative to support the film industry and promote affordability, the government had proposed a standard ticket pricing policy.

According to the notification, the ₹200 cap will apply to all shows in all theatres statewide. The government has also invited objections or suggestions from stakeholders, asking them to submit their feedback within 15 days.

The move is being seen as a consumer-friendly measure aimed at curbing exorbitant ticket pricing and encouraging wider cinema attendance.

MP Mithun Reddy has suffered a major legal blow as the Andhra Pradesh High Court denied him anticipatory bail in the investigation into the liquor scam. The court pointed out that as the investigation is now at a sensitive and critical stage, granting bail here would not be desirable.

Mithun Reddy has been actively seeking legal protection against arrest, approaching both the High Court and the Supreme Court. Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the High Court to make a final decision on his bail plea and extended temporary relief from arrest until then. Sources reveal that during Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s five-year tenure, Mithun Reddy played a pivotal role in the liquor scam. Insider reports suggest that he regularly visited the Tadepalli residence every Saturday to provide updates on financial transactions to the key players involved.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has reportedly gathered strong evidence outlining how the illicit funds were circulated and laundered through various channels. Despite multiple legal maneuvers to avoid arrest, it seems Mithun Reddy’s options are now running out.

Others, including Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, have already been taken into custody. Bhaskar Reddy’s son, Mohith, currently enjoys interim protection while his bail plea is under consideration.

With the recent High Court ruling, authorities anticipate that the SIT will proceed swiftly to arrest Mithun Reddy in connection with the ongoing investigation.
