TDP Demand To Transfer DGP And Chief Secretary

Telugu Desam Party leader and former Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar said that DGP Rajendranath Reddy and Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy should be transferred immediately if elections are to be held smoothly in the state. He spoke about law and order in the state during a media conference held in Delhi.

He recalled that long back they had urged EC to act against DGP and Chief Secretary. But unfortunately till now no action was taken against them. Though they are expected to act under the control of the Election Commission, Ravindra Kumar deplored that even after Election Code, they are following only Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy’s directions.

He said they can not expect free and fair polls if the administration in the state is headed by the present DGP and Chief Secretary.  He asked the EC to take immediate action against the crimes committed so far and to ensure that the elections are conducted smoothly. He expresses fears that YSRCP leaders are likely to create conflicts on the polling day and resorts to law and order breakdown.

EC has identified only 14 assembly constituencies in the state as problematic areas. But, he deplored that key constituencies like Pulivendula and Kuppam are not included in that list. He said that already the ruling party people are creating problems in Kuppam.

Therefore, he urged Election Commission authorities to ensure that the elections are held smoothly in Kuppam as well. He asked to provide special forces in all the problematic constituencies and areas. Also special central poll observers should be deployed to directly monitor election management.

He said that webcasts should be provided in all problematic areas. He said it is the duty of the Election Commission to create confidence among voters that they can vote freely.

Jagan Panic With I-Pac Survey Report, Call To Focus On 50 Seats

As polling date is nearing, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy almost stopped his pet slogan `why not 175’ claiming to win all seats and he is said to be in panic with the recent survey report from his poll strategist I-Pac and also state intelligence agency.

As these reports indicated rough weather for the ruling party in the state and three alliance parties- TDP, Jana Sena and BJP are moving ahead in most constituencies, he had suspended his campaign for a day and held strategy sessions with key leaders.

It is learnt that now they need to focus on 50 assembly segments for the next few days, where the party is facing tough competition. The party should mobilize huge financial resources in these segments and get hold of the government machinery so that on the polling day effective mechanisms should be streamlined for poll management.

Special observers to be sent to these 50 seats to coordinate with the party and the government machinery. CM Jagan is said to be particularly worried to note that in several segments in his home Kadapa district, TDP and its allies are ahead of the ruling party. More particularly, he is worried that in the Kadapa assembly segment TDP’s Reddappagari Madhavi is likely to win. TDP had hardly won from here earlier.

Reports also indicated that the Land Titling Act is likely to damage the party’s interests. Jagan has reportedly advised to focus on intensifying the campaign on TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, so as to divert the public attention from the government’s faults.

Jagan started stating that Chandrababu never fulfilled his promises and was notorious in giving false promises, he said such a campaign should be intensified through social media and also personally meeting beneficiaries of welfare schemes.

All the volunteers should be used for party campaign. Their task is only to meet beneficiaries and create fear among them that if Chandrababu is elected all these schemes will be stopped. As a last resort, the volunteers were instructed to use these 9 days excessively.

They have reportedly identified constituencies like Addanki, Paruchur, Visakha East, Pithapuram, Mangalagiri, Pithapuram, Hindupur and Kuppam, where it may be difficult for YCP to win. But focusing on these seats, if they could minimise the majority of the winning candidate, they can expect to win the Lok Sabha seat.

As all indications suggest that YCP is likely to lose a large number of seats in Coastal districts, CM Jagan asked regional coordinators to ensure the winning of more seats in Rayalaseema and some seats in Northern Andhra. According to sources, Jagan is confident to form the next government if he can manage to win 40 of 52 seats in Rayalaseema, as seats in tribal areas will be added in North Andhra.

Row Over Police Report Says Rohith Vemula Was Not A Dalit

Telangana Police filed a closure report in the Rohith Vemula death case, absolving several prominent figures including then Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya, Member of Legislative Council N Ramachander Rao, Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao, ABVP leaders, and Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani.

The report attributed Rohith’s suicide to multiple stressors, including academic underperformance due to his involvement in campus politics and concerns over a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate arranged by his mother. According to the report, Rohith’s academic pursuits were hindered by his engagement in student political activities, leading to anxiety and academic setbacks.

Rohith was reportedly apprehensive about the repercussions of his mother arranging an SC certificate for him, fearing the loss of academic degrees and potential legal consequences if exposed. Despite efforts, the report found no evidence linking the accused to Rohith’s suicide.

However, his family members were shocked with the police report and said they will legally contest the police closure report.  His brother Raja Vemula claimed the district collector has to decide on the family’s SC status, prompting the police to say that they will conduct a further investigation.

Raja Vemula also said that they plan to meet Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on the matter. Meanwhile, police chief Gupta said the investigation officer in the case was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madhapur, and that the final closure report was prepared before November, based on the investigation conducted. The final closure report was officially filed in the jurisdictional court on March 21 by the investigation officer, he said in the statement.

Rohith Vemula died by suicide at Hyderabad Central University in 2016. His death triggered widespread protests, drawing attention to issues of caste-based discrimination in academic spaces. The case has been contentious, with various interpretations and allegations surrounding the circumstances leading to Rohith’s tragic demise.

TDP Keeps Distance From BJP’s Religion- Based Reservations

Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on the campaign trail that the BJP would put an end to religion-based reservation if voted to power in Telugu states. Like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh also provides a 4% quota to some Muslim communities under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in education and jobs.

TDP, which is in alliance with TDP in Andhra Pradesh, is making every effort to keep its identity with regard to welfare of Muslims, besides being with BJP. Several times, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu asserted that as long as he is alive, he will not act against the interests of Muslims.

Chandrababu Naidu said at a rally in Rayachoti in Annamayya district on Friday that his party would preserve the 4% reservation for Muslims if elected to power. This came as the social media handles of the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), the ruling party in Andhra, circulated the videos of the BJP leaders’ speeches.

Naidu is recalling that during earlier periods of TDP alliance with BJP during both Vajpayee and Modi regimes at the Center, the TDP government in the state had never compromised on Muslims interests.

In this regard, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh has given further clarity. In an interview, he asserted that “we are also engaging with people and explaining that BJP’s stand against religion-based quota is only if the party comes to power on its own and not if it is in an alliance”.

He said that Chandrababu Naidu has always maintained that socially and economically backward communities, irrespective of religion or caste, should get benefits. “The TDP will only give, we will never take anything away from anyone. The TDP made minority welfare a priority decades ago so there is no question of removing the Muslim quota”, he added.
