BJP Facing Rough Weather With Anaparthy Seat

In most of the seats, where BJP is contesting in Andhra Pradesh after finalizing seat adjustments with TDP and Jana Sena, the party has nominal presence. Mostly depending upon support receiving from TDP and Jana Sena.

Though BJP never seen as a potential player in Anaparthy assembly constituency, it got the seat and announced ex-servicemen Sivaramakrishnam Raju as its candidate. Traditionally, after Prakasam district to Srikakulam, this is the only constituency where Reddys are having considerable presence and whichever party may be fielding a Reddy candidate.

Ironically, even before reaching into alliance with BJP in its first list TDP announced Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy as its candidate from here and he has already started his poll campaign. Now, giving this seat naturally receiving resistance from his supporters. Moreover, BJP candidate was earlier failed even to get deposit by contesting as Sarpanch in his village.

BJP is more worried as this assembly segment is part of Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha constituency, from where state party chief and former union minister D Purandeswari is contesting. BJP fearing that fielding a weak candidate in Anaparthy may have its impact on Lok Sabha seat also.

According to sources, Purandeswari personally met TDP candidate Ramakrishna Reddy and asked him to join BJP and contest as BJP candidate. But, he has bluntly refused her invitation and made it clear he has not need to leave TDP.

Even after the BJP announced its candidate, Ramakrishna Reddy extensively campaigning in villages. Two days ago, he also met party chief Chandrababu Naidu and requested him to do justice to him. His followers are insisting him to contest even as an independent, if BJP is adamant to contest from here.

Manwhile, as section of BJP are suggesting that TDP may take this seat and may allot another seat for BJP in Chittoor district or elsewhere.

Rahul Gandhi Warns Truth Of Phone Tapping Will Come Out Soon

Accusing that BRS chief and former chief minister K Chandrasaekhar Rao in Telangana and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India tapped phones of political opponents, Congress former chief Rahul Gandhi warned that truth will come out soon.

Addressing a Congress election rally Jana Jatara Sabha in Thukkuguda near Hyderabad, he alleged “Like how your former CM (KCR) resorted to phone tapping in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tapped phones in India.”

He accused Rao of misusing police and intelligence systems as Chief Minister. He alleged that thousands of phones were tapped and the BRS regime resorted to destruction of data pertaining to the snooping operation immediately after the change in government in December.

He said that the Congress government in Telangana has initiated an inquiry into the phone tapping issue and the truth will come out soon. He accused that KCR had shattered the dreams of the people with his misrule for 10 years.

“The People of Telangana dreamt of statehood with a hope that they will get justice. The Congress has fulfilled this dream. But Chandrashekar Rao has shattered their dreams with his misgovernance,” Gandhi said.

In a scathing attack against the BJP-led Central government, former AICC president alleged that the electoral bonds scheme was the “world’s biggest scam” and claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appointed “his people” in the Election Commission. He said under the BJP regime, the Enforcement Directorate had become an ‘extortion directorate’.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that nearly 30 farmers were committing suicides in India every day. The Modi government waived loans to the tune of Rs 16 lakh crore of the rich, while he did not waive off even a single rupee of farmers’ loans. He also alleged that after Modi’s government assumed office, crores of people became poor in the country.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said KCR is destined to go to Charlapalli jail. The government will construct a double bed room house for him on the jail premises so that his entire family can be in jail, he said.

Danam, Kadiyam Worry Over Congress Manifesto

Leakers like former ministers Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari always find it difficult to remain in an opposition party. So, even after electing as MLAs in the recent elections, both of them joined Congress party. Moreover, they also succeeded in bargain intelligently and got MP seats also.

Being an BRS MLA, Danam Nagender is not hesitating to contest as Congress candidate from Secunderabad Lok Sabha, while Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter Kavya is contesting as Congress candidate from Warangal Lok Sabha seat.

But, both of them are now locked in an irksome position after the Congress party released its Election Manifesto. In the Manifesto, the party promised to bring a law, if they win in the polls, that those who won the election on a party ticket, should resign from that position if they want to join another party.

Moreover, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made it clear that those who want to join Congress should resign from their position elected on behalf of another party. This comment makes it compulsory for both Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Sri Hari to resign as MLAs.

Party’s this decision is also creating trouble for chief minister Revanth Reddy, as he was instrumental in encouraging both Nagender and Sri Hari to join Congress and also persuaded the party high-command to give them MP seats. Danam Nagender is already facing a case before Telangana High Court for preparing to contest in the Lok Sabha polls as Congress candidate, by continuing as BRS MLA.

Since their joining Congress, the opposition leaders are demanding both Danam and Kadiyam to resign as MLAs. But the Congress leaders are maintaining silence over such demands. Now Congress leaders in the state are also worried about the fate of Mayors and Municipal Chairpersons, who are joining Congress, without resigning those positions.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers are observing a ‘samuhik upwas’ (mass) fasting to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and party national convener Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy on Sunday. The Delhi ruling party held an agitation at Jantar Mantar.

Atishi, who arrived at the Jantar Mantar, told reporters that the people of Delhi wanted Kejriwal’s release. “People of Delhi love Arvind Kejriwal. They don’t think of him as a chief minister but as their son, or brother. They want Kejriwal to be out on bail,” she said.

Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said, “Ever since Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested, there has been anger against it in the entire country. From the day of arrest on March 21 to till now, people are on the streets, getting themselves arrested even today, people across the country and the world are observing a mass fast for Kejriwal.”

Meanwhile, the AAP asked party workers to post their photos while observing fasts on a website and also post on X. “Today from 10 AM onwards, the entire nation will observe a fast against the conspiratorial arrest of @ArvindKejriwal ji. Send us your photos and messages while fasting on this website – kejriwalkoaashirvaad.com. Do not forget to tag us with the photos of your fast on Twitter. Dictatorship will lose, democracy will win,” the post read.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann joined a collective fast at freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s village Khatkar Kalan. He paid tributes to the freedom fighter before embarking on the fast.

Protests were being held by Indians abroad too, including at Harvard Square in Boston, the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles, outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC, in New York Times Square and Toronto, London and Melbourne among others, party leaders said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi unit of the BJP countered the fast by holding a ‘Sharab sheesh mahal’ campaign. BJP Delhi president Virendraa Sachdeva  told reporters that the campaign aimed at “unveiling the corruption model of Kejriwal.”

BBC Hives Off Newsroom In India As Separate Company

The BBC has hived off its newsroom in India, handing over its publishing license to a private limited company established by its Indian employees — a first for the public service broadcaster’s global operations anywhere in the world.

Under this new arrangement, starting next week, a private limited company called the “Collective Newsroom” has been set up by four former BBC employees.

Its India offices will produce all of the India content in seven languages for the BBC’s digital services in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. The BBC is learnt to have applied to the Indian government for a 26% stake in this private limited company.

Rupa Jha, Chief Executive Officer of the Collective Newsroom, said, “It’s unprecedented for the BBC to grant their license to publish to another entity…We will not compromise our journalism and the BBC is solidly behind us.”

Jha, who was the senior news editor at BBC India, is one of the four founding shareholders of Collective Newsroom. Previously, the BBC’s editorial operations in the country were managed by BBC India, more than 99 percent of which was owned by the UK-based broadcaster itself.

However, once the investment cap was introduced, companies exceeding the 26 percent FDI limit were required to reduce their foreign investment to comply with this regulation by October 2021.

The BBC’s India operating in India since 1940 has taken this extreme decision following raids by Income Tax authorities for alleged violations. The restructuring comes almost 10 months after India’s Income Tax officials raided BBC India offices in Delhi and Mumbai, leading to further investigation by India’s financial crimes agency, the Directorate of Enforcement.

What the government described as “surveys” came just weeks after the BBC aired a documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots that angered the Indian government. It featured an assessment from the UK government of the time that said prime minister Narendra Modi was “directly responsible” for the circumstances leading up to violence in which more than 1,000 people – many of them Muslims – were killed.

2 YCP MLAs Given Jerk To YS Jagan’s Bus Yatra In Prakasam

Discontent within the ruling YSRCP was exposed once again, as two senior party leaders and sitting MLAs kept away from chief minister and party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s Bus Yatra in Prakasam district on Sunday. The two MLAs given unexpected shock to the chief minister are Kandukur MLA Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy and Darshi MLA Maddishetti Venugopal.

As they were denied party seats this time, both of them kept away from party activities and poll campaigns. Though the Chief Minister’s emissaries tried to convince them to take part in Bus Yatra, they became adamant. To avoid Jagan’s tour programme, while Mahidhar Reddy went to Hyderabad,  Venugopal went to Bengaluru.

These two sitting MLAs didn’t care even CM Jagan coming to their own constituencies. Jagan’s bus trip to Kandukur and Darshi.. these two sitting MLAs did not care. Moreover, they were also reportedly absent to avoid facing the public, as all the irrigation projects initiated during the TDP regime were kept on hold by YS Jagan’s regime.

Even most of Jagan’s promises made during the 2019 elections were also forgotten. The Veligonda project that was started during Chandrababu Naidu’s regime is yet to be completed. CM Jagan unveiled another stone plaque at the Veligonda project by putting the displaced people in the police station.

The residents of Veligonda project have not received compensation till now. People are waiting for water to come out. Jagan Sarkar did not care even if two gates of the Gundlakamma project were washed away.

Not a single brick was laid for the construction of Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu University. The construction of a medical college in Markapuram has not moved forward. The industrial corridor in Donakonda has not taken shape.  CM Jagan also set aside the construction of the International Driving School in Darshi.

Police Booked A Case On BJP MP Candidate CM Ramesh

A case has been registered against former Rajya Sabha member and BJP leader C M Ramesh, who is contesting as the candidate of the NDA alliance for the Anakapalli Lok Sabha seat. The police have registered a case against CM Ramesh, Chodavaram MLA candidate KSNS Raju and six others.

In this context, on Saturday night, CM Ramesh was given a notice under Section 41A. He was summoned in the notice to attend for the hearing on the 9th of this month.

A person named Buchiraju runs a wholesale tiles and marbles business in Chodavaram. However, on information that he was not paying GST properly, a team of officials from the Director of Revenue Intelligence Department conducted inspections on Thursday.

When the businessman sought CM Ramesh help in this regard, he immediately rushed to the spot with his followers and argued with the officials. He questioned them how they can do inspections without giving a notice.

As a result, the Assistant Director of AP Revenue Intelligence Department complained to the police that CM Ramesh had obstructed their duties and threatened them. Based on this complaint Chodavaram police registered a case against CA Ramesh.

A case has been registered against CM Ramesh along with Chodavaram TDP candidate KSNS Raju, tiles trader Buchiraju and Ramakrishna along with two others. Chodavaram police registered a case under various sections based on the complaint of DRI officials.

But CM Ramesh’s version regarding the case is different. He is accusing Chodavaram YCP MLA Karanam Dharmashree of asking the businessman for Rs. 1 crore. It is also said that the businessman has recently joined TDP from YCP.

On the other hand, MLA Karanam Dharmashree denied CM Ramesh’s allegations. He said that he will file a defamation suit against Buchibabu, the owner of the tiles company along with CM Ramesh.

Jagan Locked In Defence On Political Uproar Over Volunteers

With the Election Commission directing the AP state government to keep away volunteers from election duties and also from distribution of welfare programmes like pensions, the issue of volunteers gaining political momentum ahead of elections.

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and other ruling party leaders, who tried to provoke volunteers that it was due to TDP complaints their services are at stake, seems to be now in defence.

As TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu repeatedly assures that he is not against the volunteers system and if he comes to power he will continue their jobs, YS Jagan trying is best to motivate volunteers so that they can revolt against TDP in villages.

First, YCP leaders persuaded volunteers to submit a “mass resignation’ protesting against EC direction to keep away from pension distribution. Later, they also conducted protest marches with pension beneficiaries towards Village Secretariats for stopping volunteers from handing them pension amounts. But these two attempts backfired and the ruling party is locked in a helpless situation.

Only a handful of volunteers resigned responding to local YCP leaders’ provocation and by and large they continued in services following EC directions. As few aged pensioners died by participating in protest marches amid heated sun, this led to severe criticism against the ruling party for adopting `politics of corpse’.

Even the Election Commission has also become angry as the ruling party politicizing volunteers issue and complaints have been made against chief secretary Jawahar Reddy for intentionally delaying pension distribution following EC’s directives.

On the otherhand, several YCP leaders are openly confessing that volunteers are like their party activists and are the main instrument for them in electioneering. YCP MLC Bharat recently confessed that volunteers are now YCP leaders.

Is BRS Ready To Change Its Name As TRS?

As many prominent leaders are deserting the party after its defeat in the recent Assembly elections, the BRS top leadership seems to be in confusion on how to keep the identity of the party. Instead of self- introspection for defeat in the recent polls, they seem to be mostly focusing on revival of sentiment.

Exodus of leaders into Congress and BJP naturally affecting the morale of the party cadre. This trend is feared to have a negative effect on the party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls too. Party chief KCR, who is more concerned about `sentiments’ has reportedly felt vasthu of the party office `Telangana Bhavan’ damaged the party a lot.

Immediately the entry and exit gate was changed at the party office. Apart from it, several leaders are said to be viewing that the party lost its most powerful weapon `Telangana sentiment’, after the party’s name from TRS changed into BRS, so as to become a national party.

Many leaders are of the opinion that the downfall of the party has started since then. Some leaders are  asserting  that it is a big blow to the party. Analysts are also saying that by removing the word `Telangana’ from the name of the party, it lost magnetic connection with the people.

After considering all such analyses, It seems that efforts are being made to change the name of BRS to TRS party again. To this extent, former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao made a sensational announcement. Participating in a programme in Palakurti constituency of Warangal district, he announced that they are thinking of changing the name of BRS.

Errabelli expressed doubt that the party is losing its connection with people,   after TRS was converted into BRS. He said that people also expressed opposition to the change in the name of the party. Errabelli reminded that the field level leaders themselves complained to the headquarters that they are not able to go to the people in the name of BRS.
