ECI Takes Serious Note Of Attack On CM Jagan

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a serious note of the attack on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during an election campaign in Vijayawada on Saturday night and sought a report from the police department.

Since the announcement of the election schedule, the ECI in coordination with the Andhra Pradesh police organized a series of meetings to conduct elections in a peaceful manner, with zero violence.

However, Saturday’s attack on Jagan Mohan Reddy prompted it to review the security arrangements, especially the safety of candidates taking part in the campaign. It expressed outrage over the security failure that allowed such an incident to occur.

Moreover, the incident occurred just days after similar incidents at the Prime Minister’s last month visit to the state, prompting the EC to demand a detailed report on the latest incident. It may be recalled that the ECI was forced to axe as many as six IPS officers, including one DIG and five Superintendent of Police officers, for their failure in law and order.

In response to the EC’s orders, the police in Vijayawada have been mobilised to investigate the attack. CCTV footage from the area is currently being examined, with special teams formed to delve into the case further. Vijayawada’s Commissioner of Police, Kranti Rana, will be submitting a preliminary report on the attack to the EC later today.

The police is relying on footage collected from surveillance cameras installed near a school in Ajith Singh Nagar where the incident occurred. Special police teams, which were formed immediately after the incident, already collected footage from the closed circuit surveillance cameras (CCTVs) to identify the persons behind the incident.

Drone cameras were also used on Sunday to identify whether anyone was hiding inside the school or its adjoining areas. A separate police team collected the details of history-sheeters and those having criminal background in Ajith Singh Nagar and other areas in Vijayawada to question them in connection with the incident. One more team interacted with shopkeepers and residents near the school to recognize the persons involved in Saturday’s attack.

This latest incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of political figures in the region, with authorities pledging to take swift action to ensure the protection of public officials. The EC’s swift response to the attack highlights the importance of maintaining security during a crucial election period.

YSRCP In Defence After Blaming TDP For Jagan’s Stone Injury!

Soon after Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was injured on his left eyebrow after being hit by a stone, even before attempting to know facts, several YSRCP leaders started accusing TDP and its leaders of making them responsible for the attack.

Particularly in social media the party supporters started a massive campaign blaming TDP, expecting that would bring `sympathy’ factor during the forthcoming elections. As the brutal murder of Jagan’s uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy and attack on Jagan at Visakhapatnam Airport, helped the party in the 2019 party, it tried to play the same trick again.

However, this time the party leadership said to be worried after observing adverse comments in the social media. As both incidents helped the party to encash sympathy waves in 2019 and later proved those were false,  the ruling party’s present campaign seems to be facing a credibility crisis.

From the moment of the attack, YCP targeted TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and dubbed it as an assassination attempt on CM Jagan. Labelled it as Chandrababu’s conspiracy in the media and social media. However, later it turned into reverse postings and started the ruling party, condemning it into `Kodikatti drama-2’.

This unexpected turn of events pushed the ruling party into defence. Putting a brave face, YSRCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said, “No one, however powerful, will be spared for this cowardly attack on the CM.”

Moreover, presently questions are being leveled on the failure in Chief Minister’s security. Retired officials admitting that the circumstances established that either it was a pre-planted drama or lapses in security.

How was the power supply stopped during the Chief Minister’s road show? What are the security officers doing to ensure security? In view of Jagan’s repeated dramatic events since 2014 to gain sympathy, now again blaming the opposition for the failure of his own government not reaching people well. “If your government, your police, your workers… it’s like an accusation against the opposition,” they are asking.

Now, as questions are being raised on the security system, officials said that the CM’s security, especially when he is standing atop his special election vehicle to greet or address people, would be reviewed.

Meanwhile, an FIR into the stone-pelting incident was registered on Sunday morning at the Ajit Singh Nagar Police station after police received the medical report from the hospital. Police sources said that apart from scrutinising CCTV and live coverage footage, they were also looking at drone visuals, and questioning people from the area.

“Based on Vellampalli Srinivas Rao’s statement, we are registering an FIR. At least 50-60 people were standing under the trees near the school and we suspect the rocks were thrown from there or from one of the windows of the school building… So far we do not have suspects,’’ an officer said.

Stone Pelting On CM Jagan… Is `Kodikatti Kamal Hassan’ Back!

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was on Saturday evening injured after unidentified persons pelted stones during the YSRCP chief’s election campaign in Vijayawada . The Chief Minister suffered a small cut on the left side of his temple above the eye during his ‘Memanta Siddham’ election canvassing bus tour.

As soon after the incident, YCP leaders started blaming TDP and making former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu responsible for it, many expressing doubts about the incident. Condemning the incident, TDP depicted it as   ‘Kodi Katthi Kamalasan is back!’ Before pretending to be hurt… it took two photos while pretending in front of the camera. To this extent, a post has been posted as a social media platform.

In view of previous such apprehensions created by YS Jagan and his party at the time of elections, many expressed doubts over the incident. Particularly, there are many doubts about stopping the power supply many times on the occasion of the CM Road Show.

Doubts are being expressed about the accuracy of hitting the stone with the ball. Former police officials are questioning why there is no rope party around the VVIP vehicle. The CM’s security had to use bullet proof sheets when there was no power supply.

Even after the stone pelting incident, the police did not clear the crowd from the bus. They are checking if there are any CCTV cameras nearby. While Jagan was hit by a stone, doctors treated him twice in the bus.

After everything was over, they planned to go to the government hospital. After treatment there, Jagan went to Kesarapalli camp again. The doctors of the government hospital said that the chief minister suffered minor injuries.

Normally the Chief Minister avoids coming out after dark and he is not coming from his bus when people are not in good number out-side. But here he chose to come out even though there are hardly 50 people. All these give scope to suspect the incident.

Chandrababu condemned attack

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president Chandrababu Naidu  has condemned the attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) for an “impartial and unbiased” inquiry into the incident.

Taking to X, the former Chief Minister said, “I strongly condemn the attack on @ysjagan. I request the @ECISVEEP to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident and punish the responsible officials.”

TDP Chief Insisting BJP To Give Up Narsapur Seat To Raghuram Raju

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has been making his sincere efforts to field sitting MP K Raghuramkrishnam Raju from Narsapur Lok Sabha seat, as TDP candidate, though the seat was formally given to BJP as part of seat sharing formula between three parties in the state.

It was initially felt that after taking this seat BJP would allocate the same for Raju in recognition of his tireless fight against the repressive regime of YS Jaganmohan Reddy for the last four years. However, some influential groups within BJP managed to avoid him, allegedly under the influence of Jaganmohan Reddy.

Presently, BJP announced a little-known party leader Narendra Varma as their candidate from Narsapur. But TDP and Jana Sena leaders are fearing that fielding such a person would facilitate YSRCP to win the seat so easily.

Though initially, Chandrababu decided to field Raju from the Undi assembly seat, now he is making last minute efforts. Two days ago, when BJP senior leaders Arun Singh, Siddardh Nath Singh and Purandeswari met him, along with Pawan Kalyan at his house, to discuss joining the poll campaign, he expressed his apprehensions about the Narsapur seat.

He has reportedly proposed that BJP’s Narsapur LS candidate Narendra Varma may be fielded to the assembly from Undi, provided this seat is left for Raju. BJP leaders have assured him to discuss with the party national leadership.

In the same way, BJP leaders are fearing to contest from Anaparthy assembly, fearing that contesting from a constituency where they do not have even nominal presence would damage chances of Purandeswari candidate from Rajahmundry Lok Sabha.

On the other hand, local TDP cadres insist that their leader Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy should be fielded from here, as he is already on campaign trail. BJP also seems to be ready to give up Anaparthi seat, Thamballapalle, provided they are given another seat in Annamaiah district. Both TDP and BJP are likely to take a final decision on these two seats in a day or two.

The TDP and the BJP are learnt to have decided to exchange Thamballapalle and Anaparthi Assembly constituencies allotted to them as part of the tripartite alliance.

BJP Manifesto Promise Piped Gas, Free Health Insurance

Just a week before the commencement of the first phase of voting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday released the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s manifesto, ‘Sankalp Patra’, for the Lok Sabha Polls 2024.

The release of the BJP’s manifesto today coincided with the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar, a towering leader from the Dalit community and an architect of the Indian Constitution.

The Prime Minister added that the highlight of the manifesto will be the four pillars of ‘Viksit Bharat – Yuva Shakti, Nari Shakti, the poor and farmers. He added the government, if elected, will focus on creating jobs and boosting startups in the country

Union minister Rajnath Singh, who headed the manifesto coordination committee, said the BJP has earned credibility among people by fulfilling its commitments, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantees are seen as pure as 24-carat gold.

Modi’s guarantee is that treatment worth Rs 5 lakh will be available under Ayushman Yojana, the PM said.

Marking the occasion of the release, BJP president Nadda in his address, praised the Modi government over its development work in rural India.

“Today, as we launch the Sankalp Patra, we will learn and discuss how we will serve the country for the next five years under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi. Modi ji ensures his involvement in all the events and activities of the Party. The proper functioning of the BJP has always been his top priority. I heartily welcome him to this event,” Nadda said.

Further, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while speaking during the occasion also hailed ten years of the Modi government and said under the leadership of PM Modi, the BJP has fulfilled all its promises made to the general public.

“I am glad and satisfied that under the leadership of Modi Ji, we have fulfilled every promise made to the countrymen. Be it the Sankalp Patra of 2014 or the Ghoshna Patra of 2019, under the splendid leadership of Modi Ji, we have fulfilled every Sankalp,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

Here are the main promises

1) Raising loan limit under ‘Mudra’ scheme to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh.

2) Steps to provide all households with affordable piped gas

3)  Three crore houses for the poor across the country

10) Expansion of 5G networks and work on 6G.

Chandrababu Asserts No One Can Move Even An Inch Of Amaravati

Asserting that Amaravati will remain as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, TDP supremo and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that no one can move even an inch of Amaravati. No matter how many people may come, he said people of the state will soon realise their dream of having a world class city Amaravati as their capital.

Addressing a mammoth Prajagalam poll campaign in Tadikonda, in Amaravati region, he said that people like Jagan cannot move the capital even if a thousand people come. He deplored  that the YCP government has harassed  farmers of the capital. He promised to make Visakhapatnam a financial capital.

He said that it is certain that NDA will come to power in Andhra Pradesh and at the center also. Alleging that Jagan took the development of the state to 30 years back, he said these elections are an opportunity for the people to take revenge against Jagan’s miserable rule, by using their voting right.

If the TDP government continued in the state, he felt that Polavaram would have been completed in 2020. He expressed concern that during Jagan’s regime several industries ran away from the state as they were unable to give commissions to YCP leaders.

He lamented that YCP has betrayed the youth of the state and completely destroyed education. Is changing paintings of school amounts to bring a change in the education system, he asked. He said that youth were cheated in the name of the job calendar.

Stating that the capital city reflects pride and self- respect of the people of the state, Chandrababu said that he planned to build Amaravati to compete with Hyderabad. Now, he assured with the help of Pawan Kalyan and Narendra Modi, they will develop Amaravati as an international city.

He said that a wave of change is clearly seen all over the state. YCP is not in a position to get a single seat in Godavari districts. Farmers and other people of this region, who sacrificed a lot seeking for a capital city will certainly lead a change of government in the state, he added.

He expressed regret that though he wanted to make Amaravati a center of wealth creation, due to the present government’s negligent attitude, youth are forced to go to neighboring states for employment.

YS Bharati Now To Swing Into Election Campaign

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s wife, who looks after his media house and other business organisations, is said to be pushed into YSRCP election campaign this time. Though in earlier occasions, she took part in some election related activities, but never participated on her own. She used to accompany her mother-in-law YS Vijayamma.

This time, YS Jagan seems to be feeling lonely in his home district Kadapa, as his own sister and APCC President YS Sharmila is aggressively campaigning against his government and she is being accompanied by cousin sister Dr Sunitha. But, hardly any family member is seen campaigning for YS Jagan.

Moreover, both the sister cornering chief minister accusing of protecting the killers of uncle and former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy. More than that, they are objecting for fielding `a murdered’  tKadapa sitting MP YS Avinash Reddy, who is contesting again, even after CBI named him as accused.

In recent times Bharati was first seen in political activity two days ago, when greeted her husband, who was on Bus Yatra in Tadepalli junction. She greeted the audience, as a mark of her solidarity and Jagan also responded to her greeting. This video is now being viral in social media.

On the other hand, on April 22, YCP chief YS Jagan will file his nomination as the Pulivendula assembly candidate. It is reported that his wife YS Bharathi will also conduct a door-to-door campaign in support of her husband in their home constituency. This will be her first appearance with the public coming on her own as part of an election campaign.

As there is not a single person from the YS family campaigning in support of YS Jagan in this election, YCP sources are expecting that the Bharati campaign will fill up that lacuna. Her presence also felt to be a response to the aggressive campaign of Sharmila and Sunitha against Japan’s Politics of murder’.

However, ruling party leaders are in a dilemma as to how far Bharati will match to Sharmila and Sunitha at the field, as both of them have already proved their energies in giving a tough fight to the political opponents at the field level.

Sharmila also gained some sympathies among YCP hard-core cadres due to her intensive campaign for the party during previous elections, that too during the period Jagan was in jail.

BJP Unlikely To Open Account In Kerala

Though BJP is having a strong presence in Kerala, then any other Southern state, it is unable to register electoral presence, due to political polarisation between two predominant fronts in the state. Except winning one assembly seat in 2016 polls, it failed to win any MLA or MP seat.

But this time BJP is making sincere efforts to open its account in Lok Sabha polls and aiming at winning a minimum of three seats, out of 20 seats in the state. It is fielding its senior leaders, including two union ministers Muraleedharan and Rajeev Chandrasekhar in the election fray. It also pins high hopes in a few constituencies, including Thrissur.

However, a recent survey indicated that BJP is unlikely to open its account in the state. Manorama News- VMR Survey predicts that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has a clear edge in the state. It is likely to win 13 of the 20 seats in the state. The state goes to polls on April 26.

The survey says that UDF is likely to win Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Alathur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Ponnani, Wayanad and Kasaragod constituencies.

The poll outcome, however, is unpredictable in four seats—Vadakara, Kannur, Attingal and Palakkad—that are witnessing a close contest between the UDF and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). In Thrissur, Chalakkudy and Mavelikkara, the UDF has an upper hand, but the survey does not rule out the possibility of surprise wins in these seats.

In the 2019 general elections, the UDF won 19 seats while the Left only one. The BJP came a distant third in all the seats except Thiruvananthapuram.  Of the total participants of the Manorama survey, 43.38 per cent supported the UDF while 34.74 said they would support the LDF. The NDA received the support of 18.44 per cent of the participants.

More than half of the participants remarked that the Narendra Modi government was misusing the central probe agencies against its political opponents. As many as 54 per cent participants did not find Ayodhya Ram temple construction as an achievement of the Union government, though they credited the Modi government for Women Reservation Act and Vande Bharat trains.

While 56 per cent participants felt Muslims were denied justice in the Ayodhya issue, 50.59 per cent claimed India was losing its secular character. Price hike, farm crisis, communal polarisation, Manipur violence were cited as the failure of the Modi government by a significant number of respondents.

Nearly half of the participants (49 per cent) blamed the Union government in the tussle between Centre and state over financial matters.
