Amit Shah Review On Manipur A Week After RSS Chief’s Call

A week after RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat publicly asked the Narendra Modi government to look after continuing violence in Manipur,  Union Home Minister Amit Shah held  a high-level review meeting in New Delhi on the security situation in strife-torn northeastern state Manipur.

Senior officials from the Centre, state governments, Army and other security forces were present. Earlier on Sunday, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey had called on Shah here and is believed to have discussed the prevailing situation in the Northeastern state.

Dr. Bhagwat said Manipur was seeking a healing touch since a year and the government needed to urgently turn its attention to the northeastern state. Addressing a gathering of RSS trainees in Nagpur, he said, “Manipur is waiting for peace for the last one year. There was peace in Manipur 10 years ago. It felt like gun culture had finished there. But the state has suddenly seen violence”.

Bhagwat said the situation in Manipur will have to be considered with priority and there is need to get over election rhetoric and focus on problems facing the nation. “The unrest either got triggered or was triggered, but Manipur is burning and people are facing its extreme heat”, he added.

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023 after a tribal solidarity march in the hill districts of the state to protest against the majority Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Since then, over 220 people belonging to both Kuki and Meitei communities and security personnel have been killed in the continuing violence.

BJP has won both Lok Sabha seats in Manipur to Congress and opposition has been criticizing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi not once visited this state during last one year or atleast conducted a review on the prevailing scenario there. The government did not allow a discussion on Manipur violence in the Parliament.

Chandrababu Focus On Investments And Employment Opportunities

While speeding up the construction of the capital city of Amaravati on the one hand, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is seriously focusing on attracting investments to establish new industries and creation of employment opportunities. Chandrababu, who had previously reviewed the resources and industrial scenario in the state with the officials, recently discussed them once again.

During the previous regime, many industries including Kia and Amarraja were established in the state. Many other industries have signed MoU. However, after the change of government and harassment by the YCP regime, several industrialists prefer to migrate to other states.

Now, the state government is expecting that BPCL is likely to set up an oil refinery in the state at an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore with the cooperation of the Narendra Modi government at the center. The Chief Minister discussed the issue with senior officials, who are in constant negotiations with the BPCL management.

Chief Minister Chandrababu has directed the officials to ensure that all the information related to investments in the country and the expansion of companies with a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore and more, should reach him from time to time.

He advised the officials to bring to his attention all the developments in the fields of foreign educational institutions, corporate and business, which are showing interest in investing in India.

He also directed to put national level newspapers which report financial, business and investment affairs news from Mumbai and Delhi on its dashboard every morning. The CM believes that by keeping abreast of developments in the business and industrial sectors, the opportunities available to the state to attract investments can be utilized.

If any big companies are preparing plans for their expansion, the CM’s strategy is to know the information in advance and consult with them and bring investments to the state. As a part of that, the authorities were given orders to this effect.

The CM believes that AP can be seen as a suitable center for investments in the corporate sector, thereby achieving large-scale investments. Chandrababu is preparing the necessary plans for the development of the state while being busy in activities like putting the destroyed government systems in the ditch, cleaning the bureaucracy, giving time to the party workers and leaders.

Indefinite Fast By Medha Patkar For Justice In Narmada Valley

The 15th of June marked the beginning of an indefinite fast by Medha Patkar, for justice in the Narmada valley. The demands from this fast include rehabilitation of all the remaining Project Affected as per the laws, policies, and Supreme Court orders.

The women and men in the present struggle are also asserting their right to, a fair market value compensation to all those who endured losses in the 2023 man-made devastation along the Narmada, the appointment of Rehabilitation officers and Members of grievance Redressal Authority, Madhya Pradesh, in all the vacant posts, and till all these tasks are not completed, maintaining the Sardar Sarovar water level at 122 metres (crest level), keeping the 17 metres gates open.

Following Gandhi Ji’s spirit of Satyagraha, the day started with a tribute at Gandhi Smarak, near Barwani in Madhya Pradesh. People that have been adversely affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam and its mismanagement; farmers, fish workers, labourers, adivasis, dalits, people of different religions with the same need to assert their rights, came together in a nonviolent spirit of Satyagraha.

They walked over the old bridge, across the Narmada, from Rajghat to Chikhalda and stopped to pay respects to the river that they call ‘Ma,’ their mother.  Women of the movement led the way with blue flags bearing the symbols of the river and banners.

The procession stopped at Chikhalda, a village that is fully devastated, except for the Gandhi statue which people have placed at a height above the water level. It is also known to be where the first farmer in South Asia was born. Bhagirath Dhangar and Medha Patkar made speeches about the 2017 Satyagraha, which included 17 days fast, recollecting history, the achievements, and the people.

People representing different villages affected, shared their grievances, their struggle, their support towards collectively achieving their right to full and fair resettlement and rehabilitation. While thousands have struggled over the last 39 years and achieved the rehabilitation of thousands, thousands still await full and fair resettlement and rehabilitation, 15,946 families who were excluded from rehabilitation after acquisition of their houses, were added to this list last year, when the Sardar Sarovar gates were kept closed to celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday.

Polavaram Visit : All Eyes On Naidu’s Press Meet

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu is going to make his first official visit to a district today after he took charge of the new dispensation last week. As he did during the first three years during 2014-19, he will visit Polavaram on every Monday to review the progress of the project and ensure its completion on war footing basis.

Naidu will land in Polavaram on a special flight from Undavalli in the afternoon and inspect the project works till evening. He will meet all officers and engineers who are working on this project to review the present status to form on idea on how to speed up the pending works. After the review meeting, Naidu will address a press conference and announce about the progress done during the last five years and how Jagan’s government misused funds in the name of reverse tendering.

All eyes are on Naidu’s press meet because Polavaram is a lifeline for irrigation and agriculture in Andhra Pradesh and completing it would mark a significant chapter in the history of our state. Hence, the present government is determined to complete the project by the end of this tenure. In the combined manifesto of NDA alliance, completion of Polavaram project is one of the key promises made by all three parties.

Hence, Naidu is expected to accord top priority to complete Polavaram with the help of the central government. He is likely to announce the deadline for completion of this project during this press meet.

TDP Kept Open Its Options For Lok Sabha Speaker

Bringing the tradition followed by Vajapayee government in the era of coalition politics by offering Lok Sabha speaker post to the second largest party within the ruling alliance, opposition parties are attempting to provoke a rift on the issue within the NDA alliance.

In this regard, supporters of two major constituents of the NDA, TDP and JD(U), who are having a large number of MPs after BJP, initially expected that BJP may offer Speaker post to their MP, as BJP itself is not having absolute majority in the Lok Sabha.

However, BJP is not showing any sign of offering `respectable positions’ to its alliance parties.  That was demonstrated in cabinet formation and allocation of portfolios. Though JD(U) openly said that they will abide by BJP’s decision in this regard, TDP is yet to reveal its stand.

The election to the Speaker’s post will take place on June 26, two days after the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha gets underway. A Pro-tem Speaker will preside over the proceedings of the House until a new Speaker is elected.

Opposition INDIA bloc’s constituents, the Congress and the AAP, suggest that the JD(U) and the TDP must push for their nominee as the new Lok Sabha Speaker. Sanjay Routh, Shiv Sena (Uddhav) openly offered support of INDIA block, if the TDP fields its candidate as Speaker.

However, the JD(U) said Saturday it will support any candidate chosen by the BJP for this crucial post. “What Congress is doing is diversion. It is uncalled for. It is a convention that the largest party in the ruling coalition takes a call on the Speaker. Whatever decision the BJP takes, we will support it,” JD(U) national general secretary K C Tyagi said.

But, TDP diplomatically said that “an NDA candidate” will be the Speaker. “The NDA partners will sit together and decide who our candidate for the Speaker is going to be. Once a consensus is reached, we will field that candidate and all partners, including the TDP, will support the candidate,” TDP national spokesperson Pattabhi Ram Kommareddy said.

Kommareddy refrained from making any comments on whether the TDP is rooting for its nominee to become the Lok Sabha Speaker. A TDP source, however, said that the party has not “ruled out this option”. “Like all partners we have a say in selecting the candidate for the Speaker’s post,” the source said.

Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot cautioned that if the BJP keeps the Speaker’s post, its alliance partners TDP and JD(U) should be prepared to witness “horse-trading of their MPs”.

Amit Shah For Zero Terror Plans In Jammu After Terrorist Attacks

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and directed the agencies to implement the Area Domination and Zero Terror Plans in Jammu which yielded success in the Kashmir Valley in the past years.

He said the Narendra Modi government is committed to setting an example by cracking down on terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir through innovative means. Shah directed the agencies to replicate in the Jammu division the successes achieved in the Kashmir Valley through the area domination plan and the zero-terror plan, they said.

He emphasised that the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in a decisive phase as the recent incidents show that terrorism has been forced to shrink from large organised terrorist violence to proxy war adding that the government is committed to ending it completely.

Reiterating the PM Modi-led government’s zero tolerance policy against terrorism, the Home Minister asked agencies to leave no stone unturned to eliminate terrorism from the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

He also reviewed the preparations for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, which is scheduled to begin on June 29, in a subsequent meeting. The sources said the home minister was given a thorough briefing on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces are expected to intensify counter-terrorism operations in the coming days.

The operations against terrorists will be carried out in line with the prime minister’s directive, they said. Shah presided over the high-level meeting here at the North Block, three days after Prime Minister Modi held a similar meeting where he directed officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities” after a spate of terror incidents, including an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district of the Jammu region.
