Atishi’s Indefinite Fast Over Water Crisis Enters Second Day

Delhi Water Minister Atishi continued her indefinite fast, which enters the second day on Saturday, over the water crisis in the national capital. She.began her indefinite hunger strike in south Delhi’s Bhogal to press on her demand for more water from Haryana.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, along with AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, were present as Atishi began her fast. Sunita Kejriwal read out a message from the chief minister, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail, in which he expressed hope that Atishi’s ‘tapasya’ would be successful.

The chief minister said he was immensely pained by seeing on TV the plight of the people facing water shortage amid the ongoing intense heatwave. “It’s our culture to provide water to the thirsty. Delhi gets water from neighbouring states. We hoped for the support of neighbouring states in such intense heat”, he said.

 But, Kejriwal deplored that Haryana reduced Delhi’s water share. Although there are governments of different parties in the two states, he advised that it is this time for politics over water, referring to the BJP that is in power in Haryana.

Meanwhile, in a video message from her ‘Jal Satyagraha’ venue  Atishi said she will not eat anything till Haryana releases more water for the people in the city, 28 lakh of whom she said were water shortage.

She alleged that Haryana was not releasing Delhi’s rightful share of water in Yamuna. She said 100 million gallons per day (MGD) less water was released by Haryana on Friday. “One MGD water provides for 28,000 people. Shortage of 100 MGD water means 28 lakh people are not getting water in Delhi,” she added.

The minister said that Delhi depends on neighbouring states for water. It receives 1,005 MGD water from neighbouring states through rivers and canals, out of which Haryana provides 613 MGD, she said.

In the extreme summer heat faced by Delhi, Haryana has reduced its share to 513 MGD for a few weeks affecting over 28 lakh people, she added.

On the eve of 24th anniversary of Basavatarakam cancer hospital in Hyderabad, which is regarded as one of the best cancer hospitals providing medical services at an affordable prices for cancer patients, Balakrishna announced that he will soon set up a cancer hospital with the help of new government in AP. 

Managing director Balakrishna and his family members were also present at the event.Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy attended the anniversary today in Hyderabad as chief guest. He commended the services of the hospital and said that it was established with the motto of service to the poor. He assured complete support to the hospital from Telangana government. 

Balakrishna said Revanth Reddy is an inspiring leader and thanked him for the support. He recalled how his father NTR established the hospital with a good cause. He also said that the then government allotted land for building the hospital in Hyderabad and announced that the present government in Andhra Pradesh has already given land for establishing a cancer hospital there.

Balakrishna’s wife Vasundhara, his younger daughter Tejaswini and son in law and Vizag MP Bharat also attended the event.

Huge lobbying For BJP Chief’s post In Telangana

There is a fierce competition going on to stake claim for the post of BJP chief in Telangana. After sacking Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the coveted post in 2022, party loyalist Kishan Reddy was handed over the responsibility to lead the party in the State. The recent electoral performance in the Loksabha elections has given a new lease of life for the party there. 

As Kishan Reddy was elevated to the post of central cabinet minister, the high command is looking for an alternative in his place as per the party’s ‘One post per person’ policy. Besides Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay was also inducted into Modi’s cabinet. Now, there is massive lobbying in Delhi for the next chief of the party in Telangana. 

Surprisingly, those who have been with the party as staunch supporters and those who defected from other parties are equally in the race for the top post. Mahaboobnagar MP DK Aruna, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind and former MLC C. Ram Chander Rao are the forerunners to grab the prestigious position. These leaders are reportedly using all their connections with the Delhi leaders to occupy the hot seat. 

Besides these leaders, others like Muralidhar Rao, Eetela Rajendra and Raghunandan Rao are also having consultations with the party sources in Delhi to nominate them for the post. So far, the BJP top brass hasn’t yet come to a conclusion over the new chief’s post. 

Ram Chander Rao went to Delhi to meet the party leaders in Delhi and lobby for the post. As he hails from Brahmin community, there are good chances that the core committee of BJP will consider his candidature. Meanwhile, Eetela Rajendra is hoping that his cordial relation with Amit Shah will make him a strong contender for the position. On the other side, DK Aruna is also in the race as a senior leader who played a significant role in the party’s success story in Telangana. Muralidhar Rao is also expecting good news from the party high command. 

As per reports from Delhi, the BJP is likely to take feedback from both cabinet ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar before finalising the party chief in Telangana.

అయితే జగన్ సభా మర్యాదను, సాంప్రదాయాన్ని కూడా పాటించకుండా.. తన లేకితనాన్ని మరింత ఘనంగా చాటుకుంటున్నారు. శాసనసభాపతి ఎన్నికైన తర్వాత.. సభలో ఉన్న అన్ని పక్షాల నాయకులు కలిసి వెంటనడుస్తూ సభాపతిని అధ్యక్షస్థానం వద్దకు తీసుకువెళ్లడం సాంప్రదాయం. తెలుగుదేశం సీనియర్ నాయకుడు అయ్యన్నపాత్రుడు సభాపతిగా ఏకగ్రీవంగా ఎన్నిక కాగా.. ఆయన పట్ల మర్యాద చూపుతూ వెంటనడవడం తనకు ఇష్టం లేదన్నట్టుగా జగన్ రెండోరోజు శాసనసభకు  హాజరు కానేలేదు. అసలు అమరావతినుంచే పలాయనం చిత్తగించి.. పులివెందుల టూరు పెట్టుకున్నారు. ఆయన సభకు రాకపోవడం మాత్రమే కాదు.. తన పార్టీ తరఫున గెలిచిన మిగిలిన పదిమంది కూడా సభకు వెళ్లకుండా  జగన్ వారిని నియంత్రించి, తన కొద్దిబుద్ధిని చూపించారు.
నాయకుల వ్యవహార సరళి వారి వ్యక్తిత్వాన్ని కూడా ఇట్టే చూపించేస్తోందని ప్రజలు వ్యాఖ్యానిస్తున్నారు.

చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు ఎంతో హుందాగా జగన్ కు లేని గౌరవాన్ని కట్టబెట్టే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. తన ప్రత్యర్థి అనే సంగతిని ఎన్నికల తర్వాత మరిచిపోయినట్టుగా.. ఒక మాజీ ముఖ్యమంత్రిగా గౌరవంగా చూశారు. కానీ.. జగన్ తనకు ఏమాత్రం సహనం లేదని, ఇతరులు గెలిస్తే తాను చూసి ఓర్చుకోలేనని చెబుతున్నట్టుగా అసలు సభకు రాకుండా వెళ్లిపోయారనే విమర్శలు ప్రజల్లో వినిపిస్తున్నాయి.

YCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who became notorious with his `reverse tendering’ in irrigation projects during his regime, seems to be now following `reverse’ customs in the proceedings of the AP Assembly. Though YCP members were present on the first day of the assembly session to take oath, they were absent during the second day and boycotted the Speaker’s election.

Floating normal customary practice of taking newly elected Speaker to the chair by the representatives of all political parties present in the Assembly, Jagan is not only absent, but also directed all his MLAs not to attend the session.

Following Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s directive, Legislative Affairs Minister Payyavula Keshav met senior member of the YCP Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy on Friday and informed him about the Speaker election. He suggested the YCP leader take part in the Speaker’s election and also inform the same to their leader Jaganmohan Reddy. But Jagan reversed the customary practice and kept away from the house.

YCP circles are indicating that Jagan was unable to digest humiliating digest in the recent polls and unable to come out from his Tadepalli palace. Though he was hesitant to attend the assembly on the first day to take oath, he was advised it would be better to complete the formality when a gentleman like Gorantla Butchayya Choudhary was in the chair.

Otherwise, they cautioned him that it will be difficult for him to face Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, to take oath later at his chamber, as all his family members were harassed by police during the YCP regime. Moreover, to take oath he was reportedly to plead to Chandrababu Naidu to ensure there would be no `provocative’ gestures from TDP members.

According to sources a key leader telephoned Payyavula Keshav on Thursday night and pleaded to allow Jagan’s car inside the assembly and assure he will not be heckled by TDP members inside the house. After getting assurance from Keshav with the consent of Chandrababu only Jagan was present for a few minutes in the assembly.

In the present circumstances, Jagan seems to be unlikely to attend assembly proceedings in near future. In contrast to 2019 polls, when TDP’s strength fell to 23 seats,  Chandrababu participated in the Speaker’s election. On behalf of the party, Achchennaidu was sent to accompany the Speaker to his seat. After that Chandrababu congratulated. But Jagan was inclined to exhibit such decency.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s sudden visit to former speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy’s house and admitting him into Congress party reflects growing frustration in the party over the growth of BJP in Telangana as an alternative political force.

The Congress high-command is said to be taken seriously with the BJP winning a large number of seats both in Telangana and also Karnataka, besides Congress governments in those states. It has started corrective measures and constituted special teams to these states, besides Himachal Pradesh, seeking a report on how to stop BJP’s growth.

On the direction of the party high- command only Revanth Reddy started to revive his `Akarsh Congress’ mission, luring BRS legislators and other prominent leaders into the ruling party. Former minister and MLA Danam Nagender said that as many as 20 BRS MLAs are in touch with Congress.

While 39 MLAs won from BRS in the last election, Kadiam Srihari, Danam Nagender and Tellam Venkat Rao have already joined the Congress fold. Even before the Lok Sabha elections, Revanth Reddy wanted to induct them into the party, but due to various reasons apart from the permission of AICC, PCC did not take any step in that direction.

AICC hesitated to induct BRS MLAs fearing that would attract revolt from existing Congress leaders in those constituencies. However, after its estimation of winning over 14 Lok Sabha seats failed and BJP was able to win 8 seats, equal to Congress seats. This makes the Congress leadership worry and now said to be given green signal for large scale defections into the party.

Particularly Congress said to be focusing mainly on Greater Hyderabad City, where it failed to win a single MLA seat. Only recently its candidate one in the bypoll to Secunderabad Cantonment and BRS MLA Danam Nagender joined BRS. Barring BJP’s Raja Singh, all the remaining MLAs are from BRS.

Moreover, BJP has won all Lok Sabha seats in Greater Hyderabad, except AIMIM retained its hold over Hyderabad. That’s why Congress said to be preparing ground to induct the majority of BRS MLAs from the city.

Dana Nagender claimed that BRS MLAs Kale Yadayah, Arikepudi Gandhi, Goodem Mahipal Reddy, Mutha Gopal, Sudhir Reddy, Vivekanand, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Praksha Gowd and others will be joining Congress very soon. Former BRS minister Malla Reddy, who has been facing several cases of land encroachments, is also said to be eager to join Congress.

Ahead of the upcoming Union Budget, representatives of farmer associations and agricultural experts urged the Narendra Modi government to remove export restrictions on various agricultural commodities, advocated strongly by the farming community. They deplored that farmers are the worst victims of such indiscriminate ban on various commodities.

They met with Union Finance Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and discussed with her for about two hours. It was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, the Finance Secretary, and senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture. MJ Khan, Chairman of the Indian Chambers of Food and Agriculture, underscored the urgency of lifting these bans during the deliberations.

“Our agri-export share is only 2 per cent in global agri exports. Due to the ban on some agricultural products, our exports have fallen. India faces a USD 4 billion cut in agricultural exports due to trade restrictions on staples like wheat, rice, and sugar. We need to avoid knee-jerk reactions and focus on creating export hubs,” Khan said.

Agricultural economist and distinguished professor at ICRIER Ashok Gulati highlighted the surplus in rice stocks held by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), suggesting that opening up rice exports should be prioritized. He also stressed the need to lift the ban on onion exports immediately.

Badri Narain Chaudhary, President of the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, called for a long-term agricultural policy and improved data collection in the agriculture sector. He deplored that we don’t have any agriculture policy. He said that the  government should start collecting data on the agriculture sector.

According to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), there has been a noteworthy 9 per cent decline in exports under its ambit. The export bans undertaken by the Government of India aim to balance consumer affordability and support the agricultural industry amidst rising retail prices.

Compelled by escalating retail prices of key agricultural products such as rice, wheat, sugar, and onion, the government implemented measures to curb the upward trend. In a pivotal move in July 2023, exports of all non-basmati white rice were prohibited to address concerns related to rising prices. 

Additionally, a 20 per cent duty on parboiled rice exports was introduced, initially until October 2023. Recognizing the ongoing need for stabilization, this duty was extended to March 2024. These interventions were designed to strike a balance between ensuring affordability for consumers and supporting the agricultural industry.

Former Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy’s wife YS Bharti Reddy’s personal assistant Varra Ravindra Reddy, who has been raging on social media for the last five years, has been detained by the police. This was claimed by YCP in its social media postings.

He have been posting abusive and offensive comments in the social media against TDP women leaders, including YS Jagan’s sisters YS Sharmila and Dr Suneetha Reddy. His posts were in a language that no decent person could read.

YSR fans were ready to kick Ravindra Reddy who had put up slanderous posts on Sharmila. When YS supporters, unable to bear such language, attacked him, he took shelter with Pulivendala police making a complaint that those posts were all morphing.

Unable to tolerate his vile language, YS Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Dr. Sunitha lodged a complaint with Hyderabad cybercrime police.

Rabindra Reddy targeted mostly women leaders. TDP women’s wing president (present home minister) Vangalapudi Anita and TDP social media activist Undavalli Anusha made a ruckus with inappropriate comments on Anusha.

Ravindra Reddy, who proudly claims to be a servant of Jaganna, posted countless obscene posts in the last two years. He brutally trolled Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan, their family members and women leaders of TDP.

A Jana Sena BC leader who was lying unconscious in the hospital made vile comments. No action was taken besides several complaints to the police. They trashed them all.

Ravindra Reddy posted posts saying that Anita had illicit relations. Other Telugu women were adulterers. Anita, who could not bear it, gave a serious warning at that time. ‘Ravindra Reddy.. Now you can hide in Pulivendula. Time is never the same.. tomorrow there will be one.. you will pay interest on interest for your sins’, she warned.

Immediately after Anita became the Home Minister, she lashed out at Ravindra Reddy in a press conference. It is in this context that he was detained by the police between Pulivendula-Kadiri on Friday.
