Tragedy at shooting, Kollywood stuntman dies in mishap

Not following adequate safety measures while filming risky sequences during film shootings will often lead to death of movie artists and technicians. There were many incidents in the past when such tragedies resulted in deaths at the shooting locations.

The latest mishap that claimed the life of a stuntman happened earlier today during the shooting of Tamil actor Karthi’s recently launched film Sardar 2. The incident happened when the team was shooting a heavy-duty action episode in a special set erected in Prasad Lab, Chennai.

In this incident, a stuntman named Ezhumalai fell from an elevation of 20 feet and succumbed to grave injuries. He died on way to the hospital. They suspended the shooting with immediate effect.

In 2020, an unfortunate accident on the sets of Indian 2 resulted in the death of three persons including an assistant director. Shankar and his team abandoned shooting for several days at that time.

Kollywood highly anticipates Sardar 2 as one of the sequels this year. The formal launch took place a few days ago and the regular shooting kicked off simultaneously. Directed by PS Mithran and produced by Prince Pictures, the film features music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Life returning to Amaravati, land prices catching up!

After the change of government in the state, life has started returning to the Amaravati capital region, which had appeared deserted during the previous regime after shelving the capital proposal. Increasing land prices reflect this resurgence.

After a gap of five years, developmental works slowely taking place in capital’s villages. Builders are working hectically to complete buildings that were 70 to 80 percent finished during the previous TDP regime. Due to this, the sale and purchase of land in the villages of the capital has gained momentum.

Anticipating that Amaravati will regain its former glory some realtors started buying land in this area. Land sales have reportedly been increasing since the first week of June. Prices, which were up to Rs 25,000 per yard last year, are now reportedly increasing to up to Rs 40,000. In wetlands this price goes upto Rs 60,000.

Last month, the Thullur sub-registrar’s office completed 280 registrations, while it processed 108 registrations in the last ten days of this month. According to official sources, there were 190 registrations in April and 221 in May.

In the capital region during 2015, the then TDP government took 34,772 acres from farmers through land pooling scheme. The announcement states that the authorities will give developed returnable plots to the farmers who have given land. According to the CRDA Act, returnable plots will be provided within three years.

However, despite the allotment of plots in 2018, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) took power in the state before commencing development works. They stopped works everywhere. After that, on December 17, 2019, the then YCP government announced the establishment of three capitals in place of the Amaravati capital.

This created a crisis in Amaravati. Land sales have slowed down. With the recent change of government in the state, many realtors, rich people and businessmen are buying land in the capital, thinking that Amaravati will get a new look.

In this background, the farmers who have given land to the government are showing interest in selling their plots. The government has registered relevant documents allotting 1000 yards of domestic land, 200 yards of commercial land to farmers who have given an acre of dry land, 1200 yards of domestic land and 250 yards of commercial land to farmers who have given an acre of farmland. They gave a total of 54,000 plots to the farmers as returnable.

As presently farmers are selling these plots the prices of farms and plots have increased by 50 to 100 percent during the last two months. Overall, the real estate business in Guntur district is booming.

Amnesty slams Authorities ‘missing-in-action’ amid ongoing violence and impunity in Manipur

More than 400 days since the start of ethnic violence between the dominant Meitei community and the minority Kuki and other tribal hill communities, the BJP-led central government and Manipur state government have utterly failed to end the violence and displacement and protect human rights in the state, said Amnesty International.

Since 3 May 2023, at least 200 people have been killed and more than 60,000 displaced, while homes, business, villages and places of worship have been burnt down, attacked, looted and vandalised. Authorities have continued to crackdown on those who have dared to speak out against this.

\Vigilante groups such as Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Lippun that support the dominant Meitei community in Manipur have gained notoriety due to the authorities failing to end the violence by the groups and bring those suspected to be involved to justice.

Since the start of the conflict, Amnesty International found at least 32 reported incidents of members of Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Lippun committing gender-based violence against those belonging to the ethnic tribal communities and at least two incidents of abducting  Manipur police personnel. Yet, neither Arambai Tenggol’s nor Meitei Lippun’s members have faced prosecution in the past year.

Since the beginning of the violence, the Manipur state authorities have resorted to various methods to suppress the civil society including harassing human rights activists and journalists by filing bogus criminal cases and refusing to investigate cases of intimidation by vigilante  groups in a timely manner.

Amnesty International documented at least three instances of members of tribal communities facing barriers in getting their complaints officially registered by Manipur police since November 2023. In all three cases, the Kuki groups were either assaulted or intimidated or had their belongings confiscated without protocol by Meitei members of the Manipur police.

After the conflict began, most of the tribal students either relocated out of the state or moved to the hill areas whereas the Meitei students moved to the valley region. In November 2023, the Manipur University administration selectively debarred the displaced Kuki medical students from writing their exams leading to protests from the students.

Reports  of a lack of adequate relief and rehabilitation measures, including adequate shelter, sanitation, food, water, medical care and access to education opportunities suggest that authorities’ efforts to respect and protect the human rights of internally displaced persons do not conform to standards contained in  the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement.

Amnesty International is calling on the central and state authorities to coordinate with each other and with local groups to respond adequately to the situation’s scale and gravity.  Authorities must facilitate the rights of those displaced to voluntarily return to their homes and rebuild their lives by ensuring safe resettlement,

Chandrababu `sweet warning’ to ministers, MLAs on sand reaches

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with a `sweet warning’ cautioned ministers and also MLAs against their interference in the free sand reaches policy.  At the Cabinet meeting, he advised them to avoid involvement and the risk of gaining a bad name. He said that after October all sand reaches will be available. He said that they are also giving permission to boat societies.

He said that there will be a debate on White Papers, released by him. So far he has released four white papers. The assembly will introduce a bill to repeal the Land Titling Act following a discussion on how dangerous this law is.

The chief minister said that he will constitute a cabinet sub-committee with three ministers to formulate guidelines for the implementation of crop insurance. He alleged that the previous government cheated the farmers by not paying the premium. Moreover, he said that through Rythu Bharosa Kendras, they brought a loan of Rs.1600 crores and gave only Rs 1,000 crores to the farmers.

He said that no details are available on the fate of remaining Rs 600 crore. There should also be a discussion on grain collection. He said he will discuss procurement issues with the Civil Supplies Corporation and the Agriculture Department. They directed the officials to provide the complete details within two days.

CM Chandrababu clearly instructed to bring field-level information quickly. He also proposed to set up a committee on the issue of mines and land grabbing. He assured that there will be a thorough investigation into allegations against former MLA Dwarampudi irregularities in Kakinada.

Controversial IAS Puja Khedkar’s training  kept on hold

The government on Tuesday halted the ongoing district training of IAS probationer Puja Khedkar and directed her to report to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration by July 23.

Khedkar, 34, has been under fire for allegedly faking her disability and caste certificates to secure entry to the prestigious service, with top government sources indicating her likely termination.

Meanwhile, hours after her training as a probationary was cancelled, Puja Khedkar has registered a harassment case against the Pune Collector who ordered her transfer. Pune Collector Suhas Divase was the official who reported her alleged misuse of power to the Maharashtra government and subsequently, she was transferred to Washim.

This is the first punitive action against Khedkar who found herself in the eye of a storm after she hit headlines for seeking benefits she was not entitled to as assistant collector in Pune. She was reported to the Maharashtra chief secretary for her alleged improper conduct involving undue demands on the local administration.

Additional Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Nitin Gadre, in a letter to Khedkar said, “The academy has decided to put your district training programme on hold and immediately recall you for further necessary action. You are hereby relieved from the district training programme of the state government of Maharashtra. You are instructed to join the academy at the earliest but not later than July 23, 2024 under any circumstances.”

The union government’s personnel ministry had on July 11 constituted a panel of Additional Secretary Manoj Dwivedi to look into the allegations of fraud against Khedkar. Sources said that Khedkar was staring at a likely termination on account of possible forgery of her disability and non-creamy OBC layer certificate which entitled her to compete for the 2022 Civil Services Exam under the persons with benchmark disabilities category.

She is learnt to have secured a low vision certificate in 2018 and mental depression and low vision certificate in 2021 from the Ahmednagar district hospital in Maharashtra. She qualified for IRS in 2022 and worked as assistant director at Sports Authority of India. She again took the civil services exam that year and got selected as IAS in the disability and OBC quota. She secured rank 821.

Pushpa’ team is silent on ‘Bunny – Sukumar’ Rift

Remember Allu Arjun’s emotional speech during the pre-release event of Pushpa in December 2021 when he expressed his immense gratitude and respect for his director Sukumar. Bunny said he is forever indebted to Sukumar for introducing him with ‘Arya’. There are many such occasions that stand testimony for the close bonding between the director and the actor.

Surprisingly, rumours have been making rounds from the past couple of days about differences between Allu Arjun and Sukumar. Reports suggest that both of them are at loggerheads due to the inordinate delay in completion of the pending shooting formalities.

The reports state that Bunny is unhappy with the way Sukumar is extending the shooting days despite giving ample time in the last two years. He is said to be disappointed because the team is unable to complete the pending shoot even though the release date was pushed from August to December.

On the other side, Sukumar team claims that the director is unwell and there is nothing wrong on his part. Meanwhile, some pictures showing Bunny with a trimmed beard have been making rounds. This means, the shoot will get delayed further.

Despite all this confusion, the makers of this crazy franchise are maintaining absolute silence.

Until a few weeks back, all is well with Pushpa 2 as the makers were busy with the filming to release it on August 15th. All of a sudden, the release has been postponed to August due to the pending shoot and other production activities. Now, these rumors have further raised doubts whether the film will release in December or not. Pushpa 2 is undoubtedly the most eagerly anticipated sequel of the year. The reason for this is the phenomenal success of the first part all over the country. Allu Arjun’s crowd-pleasing mannerisms became a rage all over the globe and augmented the hype and expectations on the sequel.
