’96’ Sequel Confirmed: Director Drops Interesting Updates

Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan starrer ’96’, which was released in 2018, is one of the classic films in the genre of romantic dramas. Written and directed by Premkumar Chandran, the film garnered acclaim for its story, music, and actors’ impressive performances.

96 is a feel-good drama that tooks us on a nostalgic ride that revolves around the reunion of the 1996 batch, 22 years after their graduation. The reunion helps to resolve the issue of misunderstanding surrounding the separation of Ram and Jaanu, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan. The film was also originally released in Tamil and was later remade in Telugu, featuring Sharwanand and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles.

In his recent interaction with Cine Ulagam, director Prem Kumar revealed his plans to make a sequel to ’96’. He also shared some exciting updates about the film, revealing that he has completed the script work and the film will go on to the floors once Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan dates are finalized. Prem Kumar also expressed his enthusiasm for the project and also mentioned that the story has already impressed Vijay Sethupathi’s wife.

Jagan Gets Relief In High Court on Passport Row

Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy got relief in Andhra Pradesh High Court with regard to renewal of his passport. While the People’s Representatives Court limited the passport renewal to one year, the AP High Court ordered it to increase to five years.

But as ordered by the Vijayawada Court, it made it clear that Jagan himself should go to the People’s Court to pay a surety of  Rs 20,000. The court also said that all the other conditions imposed by the trial court will remain the same. However, full clarity of the court verdict comes after receiving the High Court order.

It may be recalled that Jaganmohan Reddy was forced to postpone his scheduled London tour, which was intended from September 3, due to the PassPort issue. Earlier, he used to go abroad on a diplomatic passport being a Chief Minister until recently.

However, after losing power he surrendered his diplomatic passport and applied for a normal passport for five years, for which he had obtained clearance from CBI Special Court, where he is facing several cases. The court ordered for renewal of his normal passport for a period of five years.

When Jagan contacted the regional passport office in Vijayawada to renew his passport, the officials suggested that he should get clearance from Vijayawada People’s Representatives Court also, as a defamation case registered against Jagan is pending there.

Then, the former chief minister approached Vijayawada People’s Representative Court for NOC. The court ordered that Jagan’s passport be renewed only for one year. It also sought his appearance with Rs. 20,000 self-bond.

YS Jagan approached the AP High Court against the conditions imposed by the Court. He said that these conditions are not reasonable and sought to renew his passport for five years.

After hearing both sides’ arguments on Monday, the High Court said it will announce its decision on Wednesday. It has ordered the renewal of YS Jagan’s passport for five years. With this, the obstacles to YS Jagan’s trip to London have almost been removed.

83 crore women Avail Free Bus Ride so Far In Telangana

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that so far more than 83 crore women travelled in RTC buses in Telangana free of cost since the introduction of the Mahalakshmi scheme and this helped them save Rs 2,840 crore.

At a review meeting on Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), conducted by the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he briefed about the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme. He said 83.42 crore women travelled free of cost on RTC buses and this helped women save Rs 2,840.71 crore.

The government has been implementing the scheme successfully since December 2023. This facility is available in 7,292 RTC buses. The Chief Minister inquired about the occupancy rate in the buses under the Mahalakshmi scheme.

Ponnam Prabhakar said that the number of women coming to hospitals in Hyderabad from various districts has increased. He also showed the articles published in the newspapers on the successful implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme in the presentation.  

The Chief Minister suggested to the RTC authorities to take into consideration the demand for bus travel and new travel routes before purchasing the buses.  The TGSRTC officials briefed the Chief Minister about the utilisation of funds from various banks, the Employees’ Provident Fund and pending dues to be paid to the retired employees.

In all, the debts accumulated to the tune of Rs 6,332 crore for the RTC.   In view of the high interest rate on the loans borrowed from the banks, the Chief Minister asked the officials to conduct a study on reducing the interest rates and restructuring the debts. 

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy wanted the debt burden on the Corporation to be gradually reduced. Officials informed the Chief Minister that the RTC is earning profits with the increase in occupancy rate and the reimbursement paid by the government for the Mahalakshmi scheme.

Woman Flying officer Accuses wing commander of sexual Assault in IAF

A Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force (IAF), posted at Air Force Station, Srinagar, has been booked for rape by the Jammu and Kashmir Police following allegations of sexual assault levelled against him by a woman officer also posted at the same station.

The FIR was filed at the Budgam police station on September 8 under Section 376 (2) of the IPC which was in force at the time of the alleged incident on January 1, 2024. The section deals with rape committed by a member of the armed forces deployed in an area by the Central or a State Government.

The woman officer has also alleged “continuous harassment, sexual assault, and mental torture” that she has been subjected to over the last two years, primarily by authorities at the Air Force Station, Srinagar.

In her complaint, which is part of the FIR, the woman officer has alleged that she was forced to perform a sexual act on him after the New Year’s Party held at the Officers’ Mess, Air Force Station, Srinagar, on December 31, 2023.

She has alleged that the sexual assault took place in a room at around 2 am on January 1 after the Wing Commander asked her to come to a room to receive a New Year gift.

“I went into a mental shock being new to the atmosphere in the forces. I was embarrassed and… broken to that extent … lacking courage to report. I can’t describe the mental agony, being an unmarried girl… treated in such a heinous manner… the incident and nightmares put me in the dilemma of whether to discuss or be quiet, finally I took a call and decided to fight,” the woman officer said in her complaint.

The officer has accused senior IAF officers of the station of not taking her complaint seriously. The woman officer alleged that she was forced to approach the J&K Police to lodge an FIR after finding that no action was being taken by the IAF authorities.

Meanwhile, an IAF official said that the Indian Air Force is cooperating with the local police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam in probing a complaint of alleged sexual assault that was lodged by a woman flying officer against a Wing Commander.

As the Narendra Modi-led government is moving ahead with its move to privatize Visakhapatnam Steel Plan, ignoring sentiments of people of Andhra Pradesh, now it became a major challenge to both Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who have been assuring to protect state interests.

Already the Steel Plan privatization has turned into a political issue in two Telugu states. The recent Union Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy visit to the Steel Plant, who promised to convey sentiments of local people to Prime Minister Modi, also now believed to be to prepare a ground for privatization.

This is a steel plant that has been under the ownership of the Union Ministry of Steel for more than five decades and the first integrated steel plant in the country. It has the capacity to produce 7.3 million tonnes of steel every year. For this steel plant a massive people’s agitation was held with a slogan of `Visakha Steel’ Andhra’s Right’.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has already given the green signal to sell it and indicated that 100% investment can be withdrawn. To this extent reports have been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Steel.

After the report of the Cabinet Committee, the Central Government took more important decisions. If there are any subsidiaries or joint ventures in the Visakhapatnam Steel Factory, they will also be taken back. In 2023, the central government also invited expression of interest bids. But, the then Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy successfully blocked the privatization process.

Against this backdrop, the leaders of the Visakha Steel Factory Protection Committee once again hit the road. They are urging that  Chandrababu-Pawan Kalyan-led coalition government in the state should block the privatization of the steel plant. Placards and banners were displayed.

The agitators recalled the assurances given by Chief Minister Chandrababu Babu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan that they will not let Visakha Steel Plant go into private hands under any circumstances. Now they are insisting on answering the latest privatization measures.

Minister Narayana warns `Operation Budameru’ soon Against YCP Land Grabbers

Municipal Administration Minister Dr P. Narayana warned that ‘Operation Budameru’ will be initiated soon and steps will be taken to punish those responsible for the Vijayawada floods. He said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is moving ahead to take stern action against those who grabbed Budameru lands.

Minister Narayana said that those who have occupied Budameru areas should not be left behind under any circumstances and whoever they are should think before and after. He said that Budameru floods have given a clear picture on those who had resorted to large scale irregularities.

Minister Narayana said that there is no problem in supplying food and drinking water to the flood victims and many precautions are being taken in the matter of sanitation. He revealed that CM Chandrababu Naidu has issued orders to provide food, fresh water and essential kits to the flood victims till they fully recover.

He explained that 77,000 electricity connections have been restored in Vijayawada so far and the government officials and electricity department staff are taking appropriate measures to ensure that electricity is supplied to all areas soon.

Minister Narayana explained that the current situation in Vijayawada is due to the occupation of Budameru areas by the previous YCP government. It is known that during the previous YCP government, many YCP leaders had encroached on Badameru and sold that land to innocent people.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu lamented that during pregious regime some resorted to indiscriminate irregularities taking shelter from political support. However, he asserted for his government nothing is more important to this government than public safety. 

He said that there is a situation in Kolleru where water is backing up due to encroachments, and he will look into this and encroachment will be done. He assured that steps will be taken to prevent such floods from happening again in Vijayawada. Stating that all the drains have been destroyed during the last 5 years, he said that all will be modernized.
