Story:

Following the death of Kerala Chief Minister Ramdas (Sachin Khedekar), his adopted son Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal) takes over to deal with the political unrest and provide stability to the state. Having restored order to the state, Stephen nominates Jathin (Tovino Thomas), Ramdas’s real son, as the new Chief Minister and retires in secret.

Jathin, who was considered a bright future leader and one destined to carry forward his father’s legacy, has a different agenda. Rather than pursuing public causes, he intends to build a disputed check dam to earn fat commissions. His actions fuel more controversy when he leaves his father’s political party to join Baba Bhajrangi (Abhimanyu Singh), a top dog in national politics. These decisions cause turmoil, especially for his sister Priya (Manju Warrier), who is highly against the project of the dam. To save the interests of the people, Priya leads a protest but encounters strong hindrances on the way.

In the midst of the growing turmoil, Stephen makes a strong return to Kerala. The story reveals Stephen’s mysterious five-year vanishing act, his life as Abram Qureshi, a notorious underworld don, and the struggles he encountered in the world of crime. When he returns, Stephen has to deal with political corruption, family strife, and personal challenges to restore stability to the state and protect the people from looming catastrophe.

Review:

Mohanlal steals the show with his presence, and each scene he is in is gripping. His grand entry and authoritative dialogues are moments that will stay with the audience. Manju Warrier, while effective as a woman who desires justice, is hemmed in by a one-dimensional role that doesn’t permit her to make a mark.

Tovino Thomas, as Chief Minister, has energy and enthusiasm but is not deep as the character nor unpredictable as the performance. Abhimanyu Singh is good as the villain, but the performance is underwhelming, copying the roles that he has played before. Indrajith Sukumaran, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, and Suraj Venjaramoodu are passable in their supporting roles but fail to make a mark.

Director Prithviraj Sukumaran tries to elevate the Lucifer saga to a bigger level, interweaving political intrigue in Kerala with an international plot. Though the premise of the story is ambitious, the execution fails at many places.

The first half paces well with political unrest in Kerala and Mohanlal’s stylish entry as Abraam Qureshi culminating in a suspenseful cliffhanger. But the second half becomes draggy with too many repetitive turns, slowing down for predictable climaxes. The story would have worked better with tighter script writing and more interesting developments for keeping the audience engaged.

Deepak Dev’s background score gives a richness and intensity to the pivotal scenes, raising the dramatic value of the film. The production values are high.

L2: Empuraan provides stunning visuals and some powerful moments, courtesy mainly of Mohanlal’s stunning performance. Lucifer fans will enjoy the scope and ambition given to the sequel. The movie, however, is weighed down by its sluggish pace, using too many repetitive scenes, and failing to introduce new ideas, not quite meeting the standards of its predecessor.

For the ardent fans of Mohanlal, the film becomes a watchable experience due to his charismatic screen presence. As a sequel, though, Empuraan fails to provide an engaging and memorable movie experience.

Revanth Reddy Government Issued Rs 200 crore Advertisements To Media In 16 Months

The Revanth Reddy government has been spending huge amounts towards its publicity and media advertisements. Revenue and I&PR Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said in the Assembly that in the last16 months since the Congress came to power, advertisements worth Rs. 200 crore have been given to various newspapers and TV channels.

The minister was answering a question asked by former Minister Harish Rao to tell how much ads have been given to various newspapers and channels since the Congress came to power.  However, the government seems to be following the previous YS Jaganmohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh, blocking media outlets belonging to opposition parties.

In the same way, the daily newspaper ‘Namaste Telangana’, owned by BRS leaders, has not given a single ad since the Congress came to power. This has been reflecting that the government is not following standards norms in release of advertisements.

Responding to a question asked by former minister and MLA Gangula Kamalakar and other MLAs on house plots for journalists, Minister Ponguleti said that they are in a dilemma with the Supreme Court verdict regarding journalists and will take a decision to do justice to journalists without any legal difficulties.

He said that after the appointment of 10,954 GPOs is completed, they will think about regularizing VRAs and providing jobs to their children. He clarified that the pending transfers of MROs and Deputy MROs will be completed in two to three days, but they will not be sent to their own districts.

He said that Bhu Bharati will be implemented from an auspicious time. He said that they are trying to link up with women’s groups for the initial cost of Rs 1 lakh for Indiramma houses and provide that amount to the poor who cannot afford even one lakh rupees. He said that Indiramma will provide funds for the pending double bedroom houses and provide the beneficiaries with the facility to complete them.

AP Govt Allocates Land For Lulu Group Mall In Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam is likely to see the dawn of a new era with the Andhra Pradesh government agreeing to hand out land for setting up a global-class shopping complex and hypermarket by the Lulu Group. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) would be responsible for this, according to a proposed plan, after identifying a highly desirable location right in the center of the city.

The Lulu Group’s plan for an international-class mall in Visakhapatnam got a go-ahead from the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). At a recent cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu unveiled that the Lulu Group had also been prompted to look for similar developments at Amaravati and Tirupati, and the company replied positively. As a part of this project, the government instructed the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to transfer 13.43 acres of land at Harbor Park on Beach Road to APIIC for the project.

Interestingly, the Lulu Group has a history with Visakhapatnam from as early as 2017 when they had planned to construct an international convention center at the site. However, the earlier government under the YSRCP had canceled the land allotment in 2023. Now, with more backing from the present government, the Lulu Group is back in business, this time with a vision for a futuristic shopping complex that will catapult the city’s retailing into a new orbit.

Lulu Group Chairman Yusuff Ali met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently to discuss business opportunities in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The talks ranged from proposals to build malls at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati. The Lulu Group has been going full out to undertake these projects, which will greatly increase the state’s retail and entertainment sector while creating economic activity.

With the allotment of land tied up and government support, the Lulu Group is preparing to start construction in full swing. The mall, once developed, promises to turn Visakhapatnam into a top shopping, eating, and entertainment destination, providing a world-class experience for the local populace as well as tourists.

Harish Rao Flays Revanth Reddy Given A Judgement In The Assembly on MLAs Defection Issue pending Before SC

Former Minister Harish Rao lashed out at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for giving a judgment in the Assembly while the matter of party defections is pending in the Supreme Court. He alleged CM Revanth Reddy spoke in the Assembly in violation of the rules on this matter.

He wondered that how can the Chief Minister give a judgment that the MLAs who defected from the party will not be disqualified and by-elections will not come? Harish Rao said that the Chief Minister going beyond his jurisdiction and speaking on a matter that is in the Supreme Court falls under the privilege of the Assembly.

He said that it is clear in the Kaul and Shakdher Parliamentary Procedure Book matters pending in the court should not be discussed in the legislature. Harish Rao reacted after Revanth Reddy speaking in the assembly on Wednesday said that even if the leaders of other parties join the Congress or go back, by-elections will not come.

Responding to various issues raised by the opposition leaders, CM Revanth Reddy said that he is focusing on the development of the state and not on MLAs disqualification and possible by-elections. He said that anything will happen only after the Supreme Court verdict and that they are ready no matter what happens.

It may be recalled that after the assembly elections 10 MLAs who won from BRS switched to the Congress party. The BRS party approached the High Court to disqualify those 10 MLAs, but it was left to the Speaker to decide. With this, the BRS leaders approached the Supreme Court on this matter.

While this matter is currently going on in the Supreme Court  everyone is waiting with interest. There are discussions going on in the state that all those who have defected from the party will resign and go for by-elections. In this context, CM Revanth Reddy’s statement in the assembly that there is no possibility of by-elections is creating a stir.

Meanwhile, Harish Rao also said that it seems that Revanth Reddy is suspecting the MLAs who had defected to Congress would return BRS. That is why, he ridiculed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said in the Assembly that by-elections would not be held.

AP Govt. To Release Rs 6,270 crore More For Polavaram Displaced people’s Relief

The Chandrababu Naidu government is preparing to release another Rs. 6,270 crore under the relief and rehabilitation package for the displaced people of the Polavaram project. Usually, when the construction of any project is completed, the government focuses on making full payments to the contractors. It ignores those who gave land for the project. It does not give much priority to relief and rehabilitation programs.

However, CM Chandrababu Naidu has said that since most of the people who gave land for the construction of Polavaram are tribals, they should be provided with relief and rehabilitation before the project is completed. While the construction work continues, he has instructed the officials to complete the relief and rehabilitation package.

As part of this, after the TDP alliance came to power under his leadership, Rs. 1,000 crore was directly deposited in the accounts of the displaced beneficiaries. Now, the action is being taken to release Rs. 6,270 crore for land acquisition, relief rehabilitation and cash payments in the 41.15-meter contour. So far, 14,469 families have been provided relief rehabilitation for 38,060 displaced families.

These orders were given ahead of his third visit to Polavaram on Thursday, after returning to power. In fact, during 2014-19, when Chandrababu was the CM, 71.93 percent of the Polavaram works were completed. Rs. 6,000 crores were provided to the displaced people.

However, Jaganmohan Reddy government has completely ignored the relief and rehabilitation between 2019-24. It is known that Jagan expressed his inability in the presence of the displaced people, saying that he will give them only if the Center funds them.

The Chandrababu government is putting the Polavaram works, which have been stalled for five years, on track. So far, 78.56 percent has been completed. The project works, which were 71.93 percent complete by 2019, have only been 3.84 percent in the next five years.

After Chandrababu became the CM again, from June 2024 to February 2025, 2.78 percent of the work was completed in 89 months. Headworks work was 76 percent, right canal work was 93 percent, land acquisition and relief rehabilitation was 25 percent.

Especially the diaphragm wall work is progressing at a fast pace. These were started on the 18th of last month.. and the target was set to be completed by December. The total length of this wall is 1396.60 meters.. so far 158.20 meters have been constructed.

CM Chandrababu says All Districts should Run with Development

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu aspired for all the districts in the state to run with development. On the second day of the Collectors’ Conference, the Collectors gave a presentation on the action plan of the districts zone-wise. The problems in the respective districts were brought to the attention of the government.

The CM suggested that efforts should be made to establish industries to ensure that the living standards and per capita income of the people increase in all areas. He ordered that district-level officials in the new districts be given full powers.

CM Chandrababu said that the cooperation of the collectors is very necessary for the planned development of each district in the state. The CM directed that development plans be prepared by utilizing the resources of the districts. He asked them to take the initiative towards setting up industrial parks in each constituency.

The CM suggested that tourism should be given a big boost and that tourism development should be focused on in North Andhra, especially in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Alluri districts. He said that at least 5000 hotel rooms should be available in Visakhapatnam, which is growing as a cosmopolitan city.

The CM directed the collectors to provide hospitality to tourists with modern facilities in Anakapalle and Araku areas. He said that funds will be allocated for the construction of collectorates and other government offices in the newly formed Anakapalle, Alluri and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.

The CM suggested that the new district centers and districts should be developed on par with the old district centers. Alluri district should be encouraged towards organic farming completely and the collectors should prepare plans for the industrial development of Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts. The CM suggested that plans should be drawn up to send vegetables from Anakapalle and Alluri districts to Visakhapatnam.

CM Chandrababu Naidu, who noticed that one lakh tribals and 35,000 children in Alluri district do not have Aadhaar cards, immediately ordered the collector to take steps to issue Aadhaar cards to them. The CM also clarified that facilities should be increased in Rayalaseema districts to store horticultural crops until they reach remunerative prices.

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Refutes BRS Claims on By-Elections, Questions Their Basis

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has categorically rejected the claims of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) about probable by-elections in the state as baseless. While putting forward the argument in the Assembly, the CM put forward valid questions, asking why by-elections could now be justified if in the same situation in the past, by-elections were not conducted. Revanth pointed to cases where party-hopping leaders were made ministers, but no by-elections were conducted. Assuaging the Assembly members, he assured them that the government is still adhering to well-settled conventions and practices.

In a key development, the BRS has moved to the Supreme Court, filing petitions for disqualifying ten MLAs under anti-defection legislation. In a hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court bench delivered some significant comments, citing prior constitutional judgments establishing precise timelines for resolving resignation or disqualification issues. The court held that the precedents could not be brushed aside and need to inform the proceedings now underway.

The conversation also highlighted Danam Nagender’s case, wherein he, being a BRS MLA, later contested as an MP candidate of Congress. The bench emphasized taking tangible action against such defection cases, laying emphasis on political integrity.

While this is happening, some of the MLAs whose names have been included in the petitions are preparing to make their case before the Supreme Court, stating that they have not defected from their party. Constitutional provisions state that only the Speaker of the Assembly has the power to disqualify MLAs under anti-defection laws. Political analysts point out, however, that Danam Nagender’s case may be especially hard to defend, considering the nature of his case.

AP High Court Grants Temporary Relief To YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy In Liquor Scam Case

Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted temporary relief to YSR Congress MP Mithun Reddy in relation to the alleged ₹4,000 crore liquor scam. On his anticipatory bail petition, the court asked the CID not to take any immediate action against him until April 3.

CID accused Mithun Reddy, along with another YSRCP member MP, of being involved in a five-year-old multi-crore liquor scam. The agency said it had collected significant evidence and was preparing to arrest him and so Mithun Reddy came to the High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

Having heard both parties, the High Court gave directives to the CID not to make any immediate actions against the MP until April 3. The CID had also presented a counter-petition listing their investigation, which was scrutinized at the hearing.

The case has been adjourned, with the next hearing to be held on the day after tomorrow. This temporary relief gives Mithun Reddy some time to fortify his legal defense. As the case progresses, it continues to attract public and media interest, with developments eagerly anticipated.
