Venkaiah Naidu seeks A New Law To Ban party Defections

Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has made it clear that a new law should be brought to ban party defections and that no matter how many people change parties, they should resign from their position. He said that only if a strict law is implemented to prevent party defections the system of changing parties will end.

He expressed his concern that there are loopholes in the existing laws and they should be changed after looking into them. He warned that party defections are against democracy. Participating in an event held in Vijayawada on the issue of “One Nation, One Election”, he said that in the past, political parties used to go to elections based on their agenda.

But, he deplored that now they are going with the names of only a few leaders. He said that they used to say that they would do these things if they came to power. But, now, changing parties has become a habit.

He advised that the political parties should act by observing the change in the people. He expressed concern that an MLA spends Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 crore in elections. If they invest that much money, he cautioned that they only look at it to get it back if elected. He cautioned that people should think about the fact that we are voting for our future.

In the 2019 general elections, he said that  Rs. 55,000 crores were estimated as expenditure. In the 2024 elections, Rs. 1.35 lakh crores were confirmed to have been spent. “We know what politicians do by going door to door. If they are counted.. then there is no need to say. That is why the cost of the government and politicians will be reduced through the one nation, one election system”, he added.

Venkaiah Naidu recalled that a committee headed by Ramnath Kovind had studied this. Since technology has increased, he said that conducting elections will become even easier. He urged that  everyone should support one nation, one election and contribute to the development of the country.

He deplored that there are also those who have incited hatred among people in the name of caste and benefited. He made it clear that political interests should be put aside and temporary gifts should be stopped. People should also not destroy the future of their children by hoping for freebies, he added.

Chandrababu Naidu Expresses Displeasure Over Tiruvuru MLA Kolikapudi Srinivas’ Conduct

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of Tiruvuru MLA Kolikapudi Srinivas. Concerned over the controversies surrounding the legislator, Naidu discussed the matter with senior party leaders.

TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao, MP Kesineni Chinni, and district president Raghuram briefed Naidu on the prevailing situation in Tiruvuru. The Chief Minister reportedly questioned why such issues were emerging only in Tiruvuru while other regions remained unaffected. Expressing his displeasure, he emphasized the need for party leaders to work in alignment with the sentiments of the cadre.

Amid the growing unrest, TDP workers from Tiruvuru staged a protest at the party’s central office in Mangalagiri, raising slogans against Kolikapudi Srinivas, including “Kolikapudi Down Down” and “Tiruvuru Doesn’t Need Kolikapudi.”

State president Palla Srinivasa Rao intervened, urging party workers to maintain calm and held discussions with Tiruvuru’s key leaders. He reiterated that the party’s discipline must be upheld and warned of strict action against any leader violating party norms. Assuring the protesters, he stated that their concerns would be conveyed to Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh.

Waqf Board Amendment Bill Cannot Be Stopped: Bandi Sanjay

Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay asserted that the Waqf Board Amendment Bill would move forward despite opposition, stating that even a hundred leaders like AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi could not prevent its passage. He further emphasized that not even Owaisi’s grandfather could stop the bill, highlighting that the Muslim community and intellectuals across the country are supporting the amendment.

Addressing a gathering in Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay recalled that when the decision to introduce the Waqf Board Amendment Bill was made, he was reminded of a poor man from the region who struggled due to Waqf land regulations. The minister sanctioned ₹15 lakh for a digital library at the Karimnagar District Court Complex and was felicitated by the legal fraternity during the event.

Criticizing Owaisi’s remarks on the bill, Bandi Sanjay accused him of making misleading statements. He expressed confidence that the amendment would soon be approved and urged that it should not be viewed from a religious perspective. He reaffirmed that the Modi government remains committed to taking bold decisions for the welfare of the nation.

The minister also cited an instance in Karimnagar where a man faced obstacles in constructing a house after officials revoked his permissions, citing the land as Waqf property, despite his ancestors having lived there for generations. He accused certain groups of attempting to stall the bill by giving it a communal narrative.

Bandi Sanjay also reflected on his past activism, stating that he had been jailed on multiple occasions while fighting for public causes. He recalled incidents where he was imprisoned for protesting the removal of trees near the court and for opposing the display of Pakistan flags during an India-Pakistan cricket match.

Oscar-Selected Santosh Faces Censorship Hurdles in India

Despite receiving critical acclaim and securing an official entry from the UK for the Academy Awards, Santosh is facing challenges in obtaining clearance for release in India. While audiences eagerly await its theatrical debut, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has stalled the film’s release, citing objectionable content.

The censor board has reiterated that certain scenes and dialogues in the film are not suitable for public screening. Officials stated that the filmmakers were informed of the concerns but declined to implement the suggested modifications, resulting in the film’s indefinite delay.

“The filmmakers have made several attempts to release the film in India. We provided recommendations, but they chose not to comply. Even the revising committee suggested modifications, but no consensus was reached,” a CBFC representative said.

Directed by Sandhya Suri, Santosh follows a female police officer as she investigates the murder of a young woman while navigating systemic challenges. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, has garnered international recognition.

Originally scheduled for release in India on January 10, Santosh has been postponed due to censorship concerns. The filmmakers have expressed disappointment, stating that Indian audiences are being denied the opportunity to watch a film recognized on the global stage.
