Though Congress party is unable to get a respectable number of Lok Sabha seats in the last two elections and its presence in state governments is almost negligible by losing all major states, except Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to be more worried about possible threat from Congress, that too Gandhi family. So, during his entire poll campaign he is concentrating on abusing `Gandhi family’ and its `political influence’.
As in more than half of Lok Sabha seats Congress is the main opponent to BJP and in the remaining seats regional parties are practically dominating, Modi fears allowing any lease of new life to Congress will push the BJP into corner.
So, he is not even tolerating those who are in perfect understanding in seat adjustment. Chief MInisters like Hemant Soren and Aravind Kejriwal were forced to land in jails as they reportedly refuse BJP please not to go ahead on seat sharing with Congress.
After winning Gandhi’s fortress Amethi in the 2019 elections, not BJP is focusing on Rae Bareli, from where Sonia Gandhi was sinning. This time as Priyanka Gandhi is expected to contest from there, BJP has been attempting to make it a fight within Gandhi family, by fielding their three-time MP Varun Gandhi.
Though Varun Gandhi and his mother Maneka Gandhi continued in BJP for the last two decades and more, they were never seen engaging in a war of words with Sonia Gandhi and her children. Though BJP leaders have been insisting Varun Gandhi to contest from here since last few months, he has been avoiding it.
He was furious for denying him his Pilibhit seat, from where his mother and he have been winning for more than two decades. By writing an open letter to his constituency people, he pledged to stay with them, even though he may not be an MP.
Meanwhile, BJP top leaders said to have failed making last minute efforts to convince him to contest from Rae Bareli. BJP president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and few other senior leaders have been trying to convince him in the last couple of weeks. But, party sources said that he refused to oblige them.
As he is upset with the party leadership for keeping him idle for the last ten years and now asking him to contest against his sister. He has reportedly decided not to fall into their trap.
BJP is worrying that it is unable to find a suitable candidate to face Priyanka Gandhi in Rae Bareli and her entry into Lok Sabha with a big victory margin has a potential to galvanise Congressmen across the country.
