Another prestigious educational institution is likely to set up a campus in Amaravati. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) is showing interest in setting up its campus here. The required land for the campus has also been examined in the state capital. BITS representatives are reportedly examining suitable sites for setting up a campus in an area of 50 acres in Amaravati.
BITS representatives met with CRDA officials and inspected the sites near SRM in Kuragallu at the bypass in Venkatapalem. The representatives say that they will discuss with the BITS management and take a final decision. While BITS University in Pilani, Rajasthan has campuses in Hyderabad, Goa, and Dubai, the latest is leaning towards setting up in the AP capital Amaravati.
On the other hand, SRM University is constructing new towers in Amaravati. This has accelerated these works further. The construction of a 30-storey faculty tower and a 26-storey student residence tower has been undertaken. The construction of these towers is expected to be completed by January 2026.
Meanwhile, NABARD Chairman Shaji KV met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and mainly discussed issues such as rural development, support for micro and medium enterprises, agriculture and fisheries development. The use of Rs. 450 crore funds sanctioned under FIDF for the construction of fishing harbors also came up for discussion.
Shaji said that financial support will be provided to farmer production groups and self-help groups. Subsidies will be provided to cooperatives. He also said that the construction of the NABARD regional office building in Amaravati will be completed in a year and a half. Shaji KV said that additional allocation will be made to the state under RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund).
Chandrababu explained to Shaji that the government will provide viability gap funds for the works to be undertaken under the PPP model through RIDF. Earlier, Shaji inaugurated the NABARD regional office in Vijayawada along with Ministers Atchannaidu and Payyavula Keshav.
