A day before the resumption of the highly popular noble initiative Anna Canteens in Andhra Pradesh by the NDA government, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari donated 1 Crore rupees through NTR Trust for this cause which provides subsidized food to the poor people at an affordable price of Rs 5 all over the state.
While arrangements are being made by the state Municipal department for opening of 100 Canteens in the first phase on August 15th on the eve of Independence Day, Nara Bhuvaneshwari made this magnanimous contribution towards this initiative through a cheque which was handed over to Minister Ponguru Narayana just a while ago. She said the concept of ‘Anna Canteens’ was inspired by his father and founder of Telugu Desam Party, NTR’s relentless desire to provide food, shelter and clothes to the poor.
Bhuvaneshwari said Anna Canteens are a great initiative to provide meals for the needy people who cannot afford money to feed themselves. She hailed the government for resuming this people’s centric scheme as promised during the election campaign by Chandrababu Naidu. She said that despite so many welfare schemes in place, Anna Canteens have a special place because they feed the poor.
Anna Canteens were started in 2017 when Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister of the state. However, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s regime closed the canteens without any reason and received huge public backlash. Naidu vowed to reopen these canteens if voted to power during his election campaign. Immediately after assuming charge, he directed the authorities concerned to take steps to resume Anna Canteens all over the state.
Accordingly, 100 Anna Canteens are going to be opened in the next two days. Naidu will open the first Anna Canteen in Gudivada tomorrow evening at 06:30 PM.
