Actor and Andhra Pradesh MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna expressed deep sorrow over the Air India plane crash that occurred in Gujarat on Thursday, describing it as an unspeakable national tragedy. He said the incident has shaken the entire nation, and the loss of lives, including Indian and foreign nationals, is extremely painful.
Balakrishna noted that it was particularly distressing that not only passengers and crew but also several people near the crash site lost their lives. Calling it a national calamity, he urged citizens across the country to stand in solidarity with the central government during this hour of crisis. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
The tragic crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at around 1:30 PM on Thursday. Air India flight AI-171 was en route to London and was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals and 53 British citizens. Among the passengers was former Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Rupani. Rescue and relief operations are currently underway at the crash site.
