In a significant political development, senior actor and former minister Babu Mohan is preparing to rejoin the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), according to recent reports. Babu Mohan, who served as a minister in the united Andhra Pradesh, met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad to discuss the current political landscape. During their meeting, the possibility of Babu Mohan rejoining the TDP was discussed. Sources close to the TDP have confirmed that Chandrababu Naidu has responded favorably to the prospect of Babu Mohan’s return and that an official reaffiliation is expected soon.
Babu Mohan originally joined the TDP in the 1990s, inspired by Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). He won the Andole constituency in the 1999 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and served as the Minister for Social Welfare. After joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he was elected as an MLA in the 2004 and 2014 elections. Following a lack of a BRS ticket in 2018, Babu Mohan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but faced electoral defeats in the 2018 and 2023 elections. Subsequently, he left the BJP and joined the Praja Shanti Party.
With the TDP government now established in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is turning his attention to reinforcing the party’s presence in Telangana. Sources within the TDP have indicated that Naidu is committed to expanding the party’s influence in the region. On Sunday, Naidu convened a meeting with senior party leaders at the NTR Bhavan, which was also attended by Babu Mohan.
