Atishi Ends Her Indefinite Hunger Strike After Being Hospitalised

Delhi Water Minister Atishi, who embarked on an indefinite hunger strike four days ago to protest against Haryana’s alleged withholding of Delhi’s water share, has ended her strike on Tuesday. The decision to conclude the hunger strike came after Atishi’s health deteriorated, leading to her admission to LNJP Hospital.

Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of LNJP Hospital, provided an update on Atishi’s health, stating that although her condition was critical upon admission, she is currently stable. He mentioned that her vital parameters, including pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood sugar, are normal, and she is now consuming oral fluids.

The development follows Atishi’s adamant stance to continue the hunger strike until Haryana releases Delhi’s rightful share of water. Despite medical advice to seek hospital treatment due to her declining health, Atishi remained resolute in her protest until the issue was resolved.

At the hunger strike site in Jungpura’s Bhogal, Atishi expressed concerns about her deteriorating health, citing a drop in blood pressure, sugar levels, and weight loss. The AAP highlighted the rapid decrease in Atishi’s weight and blood sugar levels, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

The Delhi government raised alarm over a 100 MGD water shortage in the past three weeks, impacting approximately 28 lakh residents in Delhi. Atishi’s hunger strike shed light on the critical issue of water scarcity and the need for immediate action to address the water supply shortfall.

As Atishi’s hunger strike comes to a close, the focus shifts to resolving the water share dispute with Haryana and ensuring adequate water supply to meet the needs of Delhi’s residents. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation and its implications for water management in the region.
