AP Govt: New Ration Cards by Sankranthi, Apply Now

Chandrababu Naidu government, intending to issue new ration cards to all the eligible poor people in the state, has started receiving applications for ration cards from Monday.

The government also provided an opportunity to make changes and additions to ration cards.

For this, it has advised those who are eligible to apply at the village/ward secretariats. It has been said that new cards will be granted to those who are eligible for Sankranthi after examining all the details.

During the previous government’s tenure, Jagan’s picture was printed on ration cards along with the YSRCP colors. Now, new cards will be given in their place. The budget has also been released for this.

The coalition government in the state has issued orders providing an opportunity to amend the existing ones along with the granting of new cards. Whether it is to grant pension to the elderly, widows, differently-abled people, to provide fee reimbursement to students, or to apply the Deepam-2 scheme, one must basically have a ration card.

Ration cards are a must for the welfare schemes implemented by the state and central governments. The previous YSRCP regime thousands of people were deprived of the benefits of welfare schemes due to the fact that changes and additions were not allowed in the ration cards.

The coalition government will take steps to correct this mistake. After the previous government came to power in 2019, instead of the old cards that were already there, they were printed with the pictures of the then Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and the party symbols.

At that time, instead of giving new ones, the existing cards were filtered out and reduced the total number of cards. They were not allowed to divide if any of the family members got married. There was no possibility of deleting and adding names. Due to this, the government’s welfare and subsidy schemes were not available to many at that time. Officials estimate that the number of ration cards are likely to increase further with the decision of the current coalition government.
