AP Govt. Proposes New Airport Near Ongole

The Andhra Pradesh state government is giving priority to the construction of new airports and taking steps to transform the state into a logistics hub. In this context, the government has prepared plans to set up a domestic terminal in Prakasam district. Proposals have been coming for the last decade for the construction of this terminal so that small planes can land.

Despite the efforts of the previous governments, work is now moving forward properly. The government is interested in building a new airport near Ongole in Prakasam district. Areas like Koppolu, Aluru, and Alluru are being considered. It is believed that the geographical conditions required for the construction of an airport in this area will be favorable.

Recently, the Airport Authority officials conducted a site survey in this area and started efforts to identify a suitable place for construction. The foundation for the establishment of the airport should be strong and many aspects including the firmness of the soil need to be technically examined.

Necessary plans will be prepared to provide the necessary facilities at the site selected for the construction of the airport. A study is being done on issues such as a suitable place and terrain for the construction of the runway. 3,150 acres of land were previously allocated for the Ongole airport.

However, since most of it is unclaimed land and there are disputes over land, the present coalition government is planning to construct an airport on 600 acres to accommodate small aircraft. The government has expedited the necessary steps to move forward with these plans.

Officials and public representatives believe that the development of a new airport in Prakasam district will benefit regional development. It is hoped that this airport will improve travel facilities for the people and contribute to the development of trade and industry. If the government’s support and approval are received from the center, this project will move forward more quickly.
