The state government has officially issued orders transferring the sensational Sugali Preeti case in AP to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). With the issuance of orders by Home Department Principal Secretary Vishwajit, the responsibilities of the state police till now will be completely transferred to the CBI.
The Sugali Preeti incident took place in August 2017. Preeti, who was studying in a private school under the jurisdiction of Kurnool taluka police station, hanged herself under suspicious circumstances.
Although it was initially registered as a suicide, the family members made serious allegations that the school management raped and murdered their daughter. A case was registered immediately, but there was not much progress in the investigation. Although this case has been under investigation for years, suspicions and allegations have increased due to the lack of clarity.
Various associations, student organizations and human rights groups have also demanded justice for the victim’s family. Several rallies and protests were held across the state, including Kurnool. However, it should be said that Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan played a special role in this case.
During the YSRCP government, he organized a huge rally and a meeting in Kurnool and strongly demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. At that time, he assured the victim’s family that justice would not be left to them. Now, after the coalition government came to power, fulfilling that promise, the case has been handed over to the CBI.
Pawan has already held discussions with the CID officials and made several suggestions to ensure that the investigation is impartial. On the other hand, during the YSRCP government, GO No. 37 was issued, handing over the case to the CBI. However, no progress was made in the subsequent period and the case fell into obscurity.
The case has come back into full focus with the latest orders issued by the coalition government. The state government has already provided financial assistance and various benefits to the family of Sugali Preethi. However, the family members are clearly demanding that true justice be done and the real culprits be punished. Now they are expressing hope that true justice will be done to them with the CBI investigation.
