AP Government Authorizes CBI Probe into Corruption in Public Sector

The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a gazette notification permitting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct direct probes into corruption involving employees, central government officials, and private firms associated with public sector undertakings. However, the notification specifies that the CBI must obtain prior approval from the state government before investigating state government employees.

This notification expands the CBI’s investigative authority within Andhra Pradesh, in accordance with Section 3 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. By this move, the state government has formally authorized the CBI to investigate offenses within its jurisdiction.

Previously, between 2014 and 2019, the TDP coalition government had denied the CBI permission to conduct investigations in the state. The current administration’s decision marks a significant shift, granting the CBI the authority to extend its probes into corruption matters within Andhra Pradesh.
