AP Formulated Maritime Policy To Transform AP Into The Maritime Gateway of India By 2030

Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh state government has formulated the AP Maritime Policy for 2024-29. The policy has been formulated to serve port-based development and industrial projects. It has been decided to provide shipbuilding clusters, logistics and other maritime services. An action plan has been formulated to transform AP into the Maritime Gateway of India by 2030.

The government stated that the new policy has been formulated aiming to attract huge investments and also to be useful for the development of long coastline, ports and other projects. It has formulated a policy to provide world-class infrastructure and employment opportunities.

I&I Secretary Suresh Kumar releasing the policy said that the government has formulated a new policy to provide port-based development, industrial projects, shipbuilding clusters, logistics and other maritime services in the state. Along with unveiling the AP Maritime Vision, the government has formulated a new policy to attract large-scale investments, he added.

The new policy has been formulated aiming to provide infrastructure to increase cargo handling capacity. The areas under the jurisdiction of ports will be developed as industrial and logistics clusters. It was also intended to utilize strategically suitable areas for the development of ports and other projects.

The government, which has formulated a new policy with the aim of attracting investments in public-private partnership, has prepared an action plan to undertake shipbuilding and repairs at ports. There will also be a new policy to provide ancillary maritime services.

The new maritime policy has been formulated to ensure that one of the 20 largest ports in the world is in AP. The government, which has formulated a plan to handle 20 percent of the country’s cargo in AP by 2047, has decided to reduce the turnaround time of ships to less than 15 hours.

The newly formulated AP Maritime Policy has set a target of preparing 5,000 port affairs experts by 2028. The AP Maritime Board will be the nodal agency for monitoring the implementation of the maritime policy.
