Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday outlined key measures aimed at farmer welfare and agricultural development, emphasizing that every policy and decision taken by his government prioritizes the interests of the farming community. Speaking in the Assembly during a brief discussion on the Agriculture Department, he said irrigation, crop support, and market-linked initiatives are all designed to make agriculture profitable and sustainable.
Chandrababu highlighted programs for efficient water management through reservoirs, check dams, and canals, along with promoting crop diversification, organic farming, and guaranteed minimum prices. He also urged MLAs and MLCs to visit fields monthly to understand farmers’ issues firsthand. Measures such as drone-based pest monitoring, PM Kisan direct subsidies, and compensation for crop losses were cited as steps to strengthen farmer income and productivity.
The CM further emphasized expanding horticulture, aqua culture, and allied agricultural sectors to boost employment and income. Andhra Pradesh currently derives 35% of its GSDP from agriculture, and the government aims to increase productivity, maximize revenue from allied sectors, and position the state as a national hub for horticulture and agro-based industries by 2029.
