AP CID Issues Notices to Vijayasai Reddy

Former Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy, who announced his retirement from politics recently, has found himself in legal soup as the Andhra Pradesh CID issued summons against him. He has been asked to appear for questioning at the CID office in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The notice mentions several serious offenses under the BNS, such as sections 506, 384, 420, 109, 467, and 120(b) read with 34, which indicates that there is more than just social media-related accusations involved in the case.

The focus of the controversy is the suspected forced purchase of interests in Kakinada Port. Vijayasai Reddy has also been issued a lookout notice in relation to this case. The complaint, which was lodged by Kakinada Seaport owner K.V. Rao, alleges coercion against him—stating that the threat of legal action and fabricated audit reports were employed to intimidate him into surrendering port shares. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also noticed the case and registered an investigation.

Though Vijayasai Reddy has already been questioned by the ED, this is the first time that he has been summoned by the CID. Rumors are rife that a backroom settlement might have been arrived at, with reports indicating that the shares in dispute were handed over to K.V. Rao. No official word has been given on this, however.

With no anticipatory protection in law to bar his arrest, there is widespread speculation that Vijayasai Reddy might approach the court for anticipatory bail or try to stall his appearance before the CID. With the investigation picking up steam, everyone waits with bated breath to see how the former MP handles this escalating legal fight.
