AP Cabinet Approves Renaming of YSR District

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the renaming of YSR District as YSR Kadapa District. The decision was made to preserve the district’s historical identity while honoring the legacy of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Cabinet also endorsed the report submitted by Rajeev Ranjan Mishra on SC categorization, which recommended treating the state as a single unit based on the 2011 Census. However, the Cabinet decided to implement district-wise categorization only after the 2026 Census. A resolution on this matter will be passed in the Assembly and forwarded to the National SC Commission.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Teachers’ Transfer Regulation Act to streamline the transfer process.

Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned free electricity of up to 200 units for handloom workers’ households and up to 500 units for power looms, providing financial relief to the weaving community.
