AP BJP leader Paka Venkata Satyanarayana took oath as a Rajya Sabha member in Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhad administered the oath to Paka Satyanarayana on Wednesday in his chamber.
Paka Satyanarayana was the only candidate to file nomination for a vacant Rajya Sabha seat from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, and was unanimously elected as the alliance’s candidate earlier this month. With this, Paka Satyanarayana took oath in the Rajya Sabha.
BJP Parliamentary Board member, Rajya Sabha member Dr. K. Lakshman, Union Minister of State from Andhra Pradesh Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, BJP national secretary and AP Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and others attended the event.
The BJP has announced Paka Satyanarayana as its candidate for the vacant seat created with the resignation of YSRCP senior leader Vijayasai Reddy from both the party and also Rajya Sabha. Though BJP is having only 8 MLAs in AP, Paka’s candidature was supported by alliance partners both TDP and Jana Sena. So was unanimously elected as the BJP MP from AP.
Satyanarayana will continue in office till April 2028, the remaining term of Vijayasai Reddy. Paka Venkata Satyanarayana, a backward class person, hails from Bhimavaram. He continued his legal career for some time. He joined the RSS in 1976 and was active. In 1978, he served as the ABVP campus in-charge of Bhimavaram DNR College and joined the BJP in 1980.
After joining the BJP in 1980, he was elected as the Bhimavaram Municipal Councilor. In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, he contested on behalf of the BJP from Narasapur and lost. Then he contested in the 2006 MLC elections and suffered defeat. He holds many positions within the BJP.
He served as the Bhimavaram district president from 2006 to 2010. He was also the official spokesperson of the AP BJP from 2012 to 2018. He was a member of the combined AP election manifesto drafting committee in 2014. Paka Satyanarayana served as the BJP Andhra Pradesh vice president from 2018 to 2021. He is currently the chairman of the BJP State Disciplinary Committee.
