Andhra Pradesh Rains : Red Alert For 6 Districts

After creating a havoc in several parts of Andhra Pradesh last month, torrential rains are back again to keep the people of many areas and the government authorities on edge as the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert after a low-pressure system is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area by Tuesday over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal.

Six districts including Nellore, Tirupati, Prakasam, Chittor, Kadapa and Annamayya are put on high alert as there are chances for medium to heavy rains due to the transformation of low pressure into severe cyclone. It is likely to continue moving west-northwest, affecting northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh in the coming days.

The IMD forecast predicts that the coastal and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh will experience heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning between October 14 and 17. These weather conditions are expected to affect both South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP).

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert.  Special emphasis has been placed on monitoring water bodies and preparing for potential flash floods. The public has been advised to avoid crossing canals and streams during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.

He instructed officials to send alert messages directly to people’s mobile phones to ensure timely communication. The focus is on preventing the loss of life and property, particularly in districts where heavy to very heavy rains are predicted.

There will be widespread rainfall across the two regions on October 15, 16 and 17, according to the IMD bulletin. Extremely heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places.

Earlier, heavy rains lashed several parts of Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the well-marked low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which moved from the southeast part of the sea towards west and northwestward direction and lay there on Tuesday morning.
