Akkineni Nagarjuna’s Cult Classic ‘Shiva’ To Be Re-Released In Theaters with 4K And Dolby Atmos Upgrade

The cult classic Shiva, a landmark film in Akkineni Nagarjuna’s career, is set for a grand theatrical re-release. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma and originally released in 1989, the film will now be showcased with enhanced 4K visuals and Dolby Atmos sound, the production team announced.

Nagarjuna expressed his enthusiasm for the re-release, stating that Shiva was instrumental in establishing him as a star and remains etched in the audience’s memory even after 36 years. He, along with his brother Venkat Akkineni and producer Ram Gopal Varma, decided to present the film anew to both longtime fans and a younger generation who have primarily experienced it online.

Director Ram Gopal Varma credited the trust of Nagarjuna and the producers for the film’s original success. Highlighting the technological upgrade, Varma said the original mono soundtrack has been fully remastered using advanced AI technology into Dolby Atmos, promising an immersive viewing experience. The teaser for the re-release will be screened alongside superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie on August 14. Upon its initial release, Shiva created a sensation at the box office and won three Nandi Awards, including Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer.
