As the deadline for the no-confidence motion against the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Mayor has been set, major political parties are resorting to camp politics, shifting their Corporators to far away places. With the no-confidence motion to be introduced on the 19th of this month, the major parties have opened up for camp politics.
The YSRCP party has already set up camps in Karnataka, Kerala and Sri Lanka. The TDP party is organizing a camp in Kuala Lumpur. The Jana Sena party, however, is staying away from camp politics. With the no-confidence motion introduced against GVMC Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari of YSRCP, the major parties are sharpening their strategies with camp politics.
GVMC TDP party leader Peela Srinivasa Rao is organizing a camp in Kuala Lumpur with coalition corporators. The YSRCP party is already organizing camps in several places centered around the Bangalore Palace. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana is strategizing with the YSRCP corporators in Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsi Krishna Yadav, who recently returned to the city after completing a foreign tour, met with 11 Jana Sena members and gave them direction on the no-confidence motion.
Apart from the mayor and deputy mayor, two YSRCP corporators are already in Visakhapatnam without going to the camp, indicating that the strength of the alliance is increasing. The mayor’s no-confidence motion requires the strength of two-thirds of the members.
Meanwhile, the alliance has 12 ex-officio members and up to 60 corporators, so they are confident of victory. CPI and CPM members have given signals that they will stay away from the no-confidence motion.
“The Jana Sena party has already said that it will stay away from camp politics. As part of the coalition government, we will abide by what the party leaders have said. Jana Sena members will act in accordance with the decision of the party high command in the mayor’s no-confidence motion”, said Jana Sena Corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav.
