In the wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam and the ensuing aftermath, the police department across the state has been put on alert following the central intelligence agencies’ inputs. Intelligence sources have kept a close eye on several suspects, people who have previously worked in banned organizations, people who have stayed here after completing their stay from other countries.
The police are particularly busy investigating sleeper cells in cities. They have given special focus on crowded areas, hotels, bus stands, railway stations and temples. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a teleconference with the Chief Ministers of all states on Friday, suggested that arrangements be made to send all Pakistanis to their country by the 27th of this month.
In this context, the police, intelligence agencies and special branch agencies in the state have also been engaged in the work of identifying and identifying Pakistanis. According to reliable information, the police have paid special attention to the security of temples across the state. In addition to these, the central intelligence and state intelligence agencies have also paid special attention to the towns of Vijayawada, Guntur, Kurnool and Visakhapatnam.
In Vijayawada city, under the leadership of Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, night patrols have been tightened to provide security and assurance to the people. He ordered that policing should always be available to the people to prevent any anti-social activities and undesirable incidents from taking place within the limits of the commissionerate.
Special police teams and police vehicles have been formed to tighten night patrols. Vehicle checks, lodges, hotels and urban suburbs are being conducted at night. As part of the intensified patrolling, strict vigil has been established on vehicles without number plates, illegal trafficking of liquor, ganja and other intoxicants.
The police have been alerted after receiving information about the movements of banned SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) sympathizers in Vijayawada. Based on specific information received from central intelligence agencies, special vigil has been established on ten suspects in the city and their activities are being closely monitored.
About two months ago, the central intelligence agencies provided details of four suspected SIMI sympathizers to the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate officials, according to reliable sources. Receiving this information, the local police have intensified their investigation in their own way and have identified six more suspects. With this, the surveillance system has been focused on the movements of a total of ten people.
During the initial investigation, it was found that these ten suspects reside in areas like Gollapudi, Ashok Nagar, and Labbipet in the city and earn their living by doing various types of work. However, senior police officials say that they have not come across any illegal or suspicious activities from them so far, but they are continuously monitoring them.
Vijayawada city has also been a key shelter zone for Maoists in the past. In this context, the security apparatus is acting more vigilantly with the latest information. Officials say that all precautionary measures are being taken to prevent any untoward incident. Officials have made it clear that they are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to monitor the suspects.
In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Union Home Ministry has cancelled the visas issued to Pakistani citizens under Section 3(1) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, said DGP Harish Kumar Gupta.
He said that the Union Home Ministry has ordered all Pakistani citizens who have come on other visas to leave the country by the 27th of this month, and Pakistanis who have come on medical visas for medical services to leave the country by the 29th of this month. He warned that strict action will be taken against such people if they exceed the time limit, even illegally, against the rules.
