After demolishing the AAP National Convener Aravind Kejriwal’s `kingdom’ in the national capital New Delhi, the BJP’s next target seems to be West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In the elections to be held after a year from now, the BJP is determined to put an end to Mamata’s dominance over West Bengal’s politics.
It had mobilized all the resources on its command to unseat her in the 2021 assembly elections. Though the BJP succeeded in demolishing both CPM and also the Congress from the state politics by winning more than 70 seats, it failed to form a government. Later, the party became weak mostly due to internal conflicts and contradictions. It fared badly in the last year’s Lok Sabha elections.
However, on the pattern of Delhi Assembly elections, now BJP seems to be planning to take advantage of contradictions among non-BJP parties. Already, Mamata Banerjee has announced that her party will have no alliance with any party in next Vidhan Sabha elections and the INC is non-existent in the eastern State .The elections are expected to be held by March 2026.
Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress Party is part of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc to wrest power from BJP led NDA. But on the lines of AAP, the TMC has several times expressed dissatisfaction over its leadership. Mamata Banerjee has gone on record saying she is prepared to lead the alliance if all the constituents of the India bloc unanimously ask her to lead the grouping.
As of Now, DMK and its allies and the Left parties have reserved their stance on replacing Rahul Gandhi as its leader. Lalu Prasad Yadav and family led RJD and Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal however have no hesitation if Mamata Aad Banerjee leads the Opposition. In the just concluded Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections, TMC and Samajwadi Party supported AAP.
Ahead of assembly elections in West Bengal, the Congress made determined efforts to come back in Delhi but failed, also making similar efforts here. Rahul Gandhi is likely to start Padayatra in the state. Moreover, Leftists are also trying to make a comeback to the mainstream.
