Adani has been increasing pressure on the AP government through SECI to get ready to buy solar power as per the agreement, even before the power supply network is ready. SECI is repeatedly writing letters saying that Adani is ready to supply power from April and Adani staff are also repeatedly meeting senior AP officials of the energy department and putting pressure on them to buy power.
A letter is coming from SECI in this regard every two to three days. About 10 letters were received by the energy department in January alone. The summary of the letters is that they are ready to supply solar power from April and that the network needs to be developed to connect that power to the grid, and that it will be ready by March.
The authorities are struggling to respond to these letters. Legal experts are being consulted on how to respond to SECI’s letters. Adani has completed the construction of about 2,450 MW of solar power plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan. According to the power purchase agreement signed with the state government, 3,000 MW of electricity is to be supplied in the first phase from September 2024.
They say that they could not provide it due to various reasons, but now that Adani’s plants have come into production, they are ready to provide all that electricity. However, PGCIL says that the network is not ready to connect that electricity to the grid. Adani is writing letters that the grid connection will be completed by March and electricity will be supplied as per the agreement from April.
Currently, SECI has said in its letters to the Energy Department that Adani is selling the electricity it produces in the market due to the unavailability of the network. SECI has signed a power purchase agreement with Adani for 7,000 megawatts. Adani is writing letters to SECI asking them to buy electricity to that extent.
Adani has set up plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan. To connect the electricity coming from them to the grid, a network should be developed in both states. From there, the electricity should be connected to a substation near Guthi in Anantapur district. Until then, Adani is responsible. But why is Adani rushing before the network is ready? The authorities do not understand what is the design before their pressure through letters?
