Abhishek Manu Singhvi Unanimously Elected to Rajya Sabha from Telangana

Hyderabad: Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana. The deadline for the withdrawal of candidature for the Rajya Sabha elections concluded today. Singhvi of the Congress and Padmarajan were the only candidates to file nomination papers for the vacant seat.

Padmarajan’s nomination was rejected due to a lack of support from MLAs, leaving Singhvi as the sole candidate. Congress Vice-President Niranjan Singhvi is expected to collect the certificate from the returning officer on behalf of Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Singhvi, who has previously served in the Rajya Sabha twice—in 2006 and 2018—was unsuccessful in his recent attempt to secure a seat from Himachal Pradesh in March, losing to a BJP candidate. He now fills the Rajya Sabha seat that became vacant following the resignation of KK.
