Aamir Khan Reflects on Personal Struggles Following Divorce from Reena Dutta

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has opened up for the first time about a deeply personal and painful phase in his life following his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he battled severe depression and turned to alcohol during that period, even as he was receiving national acclaim for his work in Lagaan.

Speaking to a media outlet, Khan said, “After my separation from Reena in 2002, my life turned upside down. For a year and a half, I drank every day. I wouldn’t sleep — I would just pass out from drinking. I was trying to destroy myself. During that time, I didn’t work on any films or meet anyone.” He added that despite his emotional turmoil, Lagaan released the same year and he was named ‘Man of the Year’ by a magazine, which he said felt painfully ironic.

Aamir Khan was married to Reena Dutta for 16 years, and the couple has two children, Junaid and Ira. Despite their separation, Khan has stated that they have continued to maintain mutual respect. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, with whom he separated in 2021. The actor continues to maintain cordial relations with both his former spouses and remains actively involved in the lives of his children.
