Aamir Khan Breaks Silence on Pahalgam Attack Backlash, Cites Patriotic Stance in Past Decisions

Amid widespread criticism on social media over the silence of Bollywood’s leading Khans following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, actor Aamir Khan has issued a detailed response, citing his long-standing support for the nation and the armed forces.

Appearing on a television talk show, Aamir dismissed allegations of indifference, pointing to his 1999 film Sarfarosh, which, he said, was the first Indian film to openly depict Pakistan as a hostile neighbour. “In Sarfarosh, we used the phrase ‘padosi mulk’ to refer to Pakistan. Contrary to what some believe, I have never shied away from addressing these issues,” he said.

Addressing further criticism, Aamir revealed that he had refused to release Dangal in Pakistan due to censorship demands. “Disney, who co-produced Dangal, planned its release in Pakistan. However, their censor board asked us to remove the final scene showcasing the Indian flag and national anthem. I refused immediately. I told them I won’t do business by compromising on national pride,” he stated, adding, “I don’t need money earned at the cost of the Indian flag.”

Aamir also clarified that his films Dangal and Secret Superstar received overwhelming response in China during a period of diplomatic calm between the two countries. “There were no tensions at the time. The films were released in a spirit of goodwill,” he said.

Recounting his efforts during the Kargil War, Aamir said he had spent nearly eight days touring Leh and other areas to support the Indian Army. “I visited several regiments, dined with soldiers, and listened to their war-time experiences. It was a deeply humbling experience,” he added.

Reiterating his secular values, Aamir stated that he holds no bias against any religion and respects all communities and their beliefs.

Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, in which he plays a lead role, is scheduled to release on June 20.
