The Revanth Reddy government has completed one year. During this year he has dominated the Telangana political scene, successfully challenging not only his political rivals, but also his opponents within his own party. By taking up several massive programs he is trying to establish his own mark in governance.
However, he is struggling hard to impress upon various sections of the people, particularly fulfilling his electoral promises, better known as Six Guarantees. Besides severe financial constraints, he succeeded in fulfilling farm loan waiver to maximum extent. Also able to fill about 50,000 jobs in a year, though most of those proceedings initiated during the previous regime.
Establishment of Skill University by appointing Anand Mahindra as Chairman has certainly brought his credit. Though he faced hardships of power cuts during initial days, he was able to resolve it very soon. He also succeeded in making a move in fulfilling his election promises of 200 units of power supply to the poor, free buses for women, increase in the Arogyasri limit to Rs 10 lakh, bonus of Rs 500 for paddy, and the agreement with Tata Technologies to adapt ITIs in the state.
Though his Hydra demolitions drive and Musi river revival project have become the center of severe criticism from the opposition and also some sections of the people, these initiatives are reflecting his strong will power of taking reforms with courage, even posing him severe political challenges from within his own party.
However, lack of administrative experience pushed him into trouble by making announcements without proper prior preparation. That reflects hardships for land acquisition for a Pharma village in his own constituency. Though he is able to pay salaries on time, settling retirement benefits is turning out to be a problem, resulting in discontent among employees.
Whatever the reasons, the inability to form a full-fledged cabinet even after a year has been exposing his falling rapport with the party high-command. As a result, there are no ministers for the most crucial Home, Education, Municipal, Labor, SC, and ST Welfare departments.
On the other hand, the ruling Congress has failed miserably in confronting the opposition BRS in the Assembly. There are criticisms that, except for CM Revanth Reddy, the ministers are not acting effectively in confronting the BRS. The cabinet failed to present a `united face’ in the wake of targeting BRS or even BJP.
Like KCR, Revanth Reddy also denied entry to the media in the secretariat even after a year. Stains CM Revanth Reddy’s U-turn on the land worth hundreds of crores of rupees to the Sai Sindhu Foundation belonging to BRS MP Hetero Parthasarathy Reddy has become a cause for criticism.
Revanth Reddy, who was in the opposition and who was severely criticized, decided to continue the land to the same company with a small change after coming to power. The same is true in the case of #Megha Engineering.
Though as opposition leader he accused mega scams in Kaleshwaram Project by the same engineering company, as a Chief Minister his proximity with him made every one. Allegations that the scope of the Kaleshwaram project investigation was changed to protect it from cases.
Revanth Reddy now became known for his U-turn policies. May be with regard to Hyd Pharma City, Lagacharla Pharma City, ORR lease or Kokapet lands. Moreover, he is continuing several IAS officers known for their proximity with the KCR regime and also he himself levelled severe accusations against him when he was in the opposition.
