NITI Aayog has suggested to the state government to set up a Container Mega Port in Visakhapatnam. NITI Aayog CEO Subrahmanyam met Chief Secretary Vijayanand on Thursday. On this occasion, he said that Andhra Pradesh is ahead of the rapidly developing states on the east coast.
Explaining the programs being implemented through the Purvodaya scheme implemented by the Center, he also discussed the Visakhapatnam Growth Hub as part of it. He said that there is scope for organizing many programs in the coastal area through this scheme. He said that although there are many ports in the state, there is a need to set up a container mega port in addition to them.
He suggested to the Chief Secretary to make efforts in that direction. Subrahmanyam said that there will be a discussion on comprehensive development in the upcoming meeting of Chief Secretaries to the government. For this, he suggested that a report be prepared so that a special presentation can be given on innovative schemes.
At the same time, the establishment of Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati growth corridors and the benefits arising from it were reviewed. CS Vijayanand said that a special officer will be appointed to speed up the work of Visakhapatnam Growth Hub. He asked Subrahmanyam to recommend NITI Aayog to get the necessary funds from the Center.
The Purvodaya scheme has been set up for development in various sectors in the eastern coastal states of Andhra, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. The objectives of this scheme are to create infrastructure, increase employment opportunities and achieve sustainable economic development by utilizing cultural heritage and natural resources.
As part of infrastructure development, roads, bridges, airports, ports and power plants will be set up. NITI Aayog Additional CEO Parthasaradhi Reddy, Principal Secretary of Finance Piyush Kumar, Secretary of Education Shashidhar, Secretary of Finance Vinaychand, Joint Secretary of Planning Anant Shankar, and MD of Skill Development Institute Ganesh Kumar participated in this meeting.
