Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, a pathbreaking Malayalam movie, has stormed the box office, reaching the mark of ₹300 crore. The movie is of special importance as it is the first South Indian female-led superhero movie. Following its huge success in Malayalam, the movie was dubbed in Telugu as Kotha Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra and continued to hit the road to success with the help of producer Suryadevara Nagavamsi. Despite the success, Nagavamsi believes that if the movie had been made directly for the Telugu audience, it might not have seen the same success due to its roots in Malayalam cinema.
In a recent promotional interview for his upcoming film Mass Jathara, Nagavamsi met with the film’s lead actor Ravi Teja and the director Kalyan Shankar from Mad, Mad Square Films for a chat. The three discussed how the tastes and preferences of the Telugu film industry are changing, and how pervasive social media is changing the way audiences view films.
In respect to Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, Nagavamsi mentioned that if the film were made directly in Telugu, he would likely have faced a backlash for the plot and logic and the film may not have been successful. He emphasized the uncertainty of audience reactions, admitting that it is difficult to know which films will appeal to audiences.
