Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has expressed interest in setting up a 1,000 MW data centre in Visakhapatnam with an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore. It has decided to invest this amount in phases. The company is going to open a TCS Development Centre in Visakhapatnam next month. In this context, a top official said that the company intends to make an official announcement on the establishment of the data centre.
Recently, TCS Chairman Chandrasekaran met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat and discussed the data centre proposal. It is noteworthy that global giants will invest around Rs 2.60 lakh crore in Visakhapatnam through the establishment of data centres in the next two years. Experts say that more than ten times the indirect employment generated by the companies setting up data centres will be generated from the companies setting up their centres.
With the establishment of data centers, Visakhapatnam will emerge as an AI (Artificial Intelligence) city. Experts say that AI startups and AI-based companies will come to Visakhapatnam with data centers as their hub. If data centers are made available, there is a possibility of development in the high-speed computing, animation, gaming, VHFX, and AI cloud sectors. Suitable conditions will be created for investments from large companies in those sectors.
Giant companies like Google, TCS, Cognizant, Accenture, Syfy, and Meta have already signed agreements with the government to start operations from Visakhapatnam. Google has already agreed to set up the largest data center (1,000 megawatts) outside the US at a cost of Rs. 56,000 crore. An agreement in this regard will be signed in November.
Google subsidiary Raiden Infotech India will set up a 1,000-megawatt data center with an investment of Rs 87,520 crore. The cabinet meeting held on Friday approved the company’s proposal. Syfy Technologies is going to set up a data center with an investment of Rs 16,000 crore.
Meta will also set up a landing center in Visakhapatnam through submarine cables. Experts say that Visakhapatnam will become a future center for the establishment of companies like AI, quantum and blockchain technology with the high-speed data centers set up by these companies.
