The ministerial sub-committee has made recommendations for the public use of Rushikonda Palace, which was built during the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime and has been the focus of many criticisms. However, it was decided to invite suggestions from the public on how to use it? Ahead of the state cabinet meeting, the ministerial sub-committee on the use of Rushikonda Palace met at the Secretariat on Friday.
Ministers Payyavula Keshav, DSBV Swamy and Kandula Durgesh participatd in this meeting. The meeting was held to work on bringing the Rushikonda building to public use and generating revenue for the government. It was felt that the Rushikonda Palace, which is not being used, is costing the government Rs. 25 lakh per month in electricity charges and maintenance costs.
The sub-committee discussed how to overcome the situation where the government is now having to pay back what used to generate revenue of Rs. 7 crore. It was decided in this meeting to issue a statement seeking public opinion. The proposals and suggestions for the hospitality sector to operate a hotel and set up a treatment center were discussed in the cabinet sub-committee meeting.
The sub-committee decided to take suggestions from the public more widely. The cabinet sub-committee will submit a report to the government on the use of Rushikonda Palace. The Rushikonda buildings were constructed during the YSRCP’s rule. Coalition leaders have made a series of allegations that Jagan built these buildings with government funds for his personal luxuries.
After the formation of the coalition government, many leaders including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan visited the buildings. It was also discussed in the state cabinet. However, no decision was reached on how to bring these into use.
Ultimately, a cabinet sub-committee was constituted to suggest the government on better use of this massive construction. Recently, Pawan Kalyan visited them along with his party MLAs. He made some suggestions to use these buildings built with government funds to generate revenue.
