Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Adaptation Progresses with Script Updates

Bollywood director Nitesh Tiwari is set to bring the epic Ramayana back to the big screen with a film of the same name. Recent reports on social media suggested changes in the script for certain characters, prompting Tiwari to clarify that the movie draws inspiration from multiple versions of the Ramayana. “I love every character in the Ramayana, and every aspect of this epic feels fresh. We have studied numerous adaptations and taken all of them into consideration for this film. Experts have also contributed to the script, and their inputs have been included,” he stated. While the film primarily follows Valmiki’s Ramayana, characters like Shurpanakha may be adapted from other versions, giving the narrative a broader perspective.

The project is being made in two parts, with shooting for the first installment already completed and post-production currently underway. The film is reportedly being produced on a massive budget of ₹4,000 crore, reflecting its scale and ambition.

The star-studded cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, with Lara Dutta portraying Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha. The first part is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027, generating high anticipation among audiences and industry insiders alike.
