The Telangana government is gearing up to hold elections for Mandal Parishad and Panchayat bodies following the recently enhanced reservations under the government order (GO). The State Election Commission (SEC) has officially issued notifications, signaling the start of the election process.
The polls will be conducted in multiple phases: two phases for Mandal Parishad elections and three phases for Panchayat elections. The SEC confirmed that it consulted with all political parties before finalizing the schedule. A total of 565 Mandals are set to go to the polls for the MPTC elections.
Election Schedule:
October 23 – First phase of MPTC and ZPTC polling
October 27 – Second phase of MPTC and ZPTC polling
October 31 – First phase of Gram Panchayat elections
November 4 – Second phase of Gram Panchayat elections
November 8 – Third phase of Gram Panchayat elections
November 11 – Counting for MPTC and ZPTC elections
With the schedule announced, the model code of conduct has officially come into effect across the state. However, the elections are subject to the final outcome regarding the reservation GO, which is currently under review in the Telangana High Court. The court has scheduled a hearing for October 8 and had earlier suggested that notifications should not be issued until the matter is resolved. Despite this, the SEC has gone ahead with releasing the election dates, moving forward with preparations for a smooth polling process.
