NHRC Orders Case Against Ranbir Kapoor for E-Cigarette Ban Violation in Web Series

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed Mumbai Police to register a case against Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor for allegedly violating the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. The action pertains to his guest appearance in Aryan Khan directorial debut series The Bads of Bollywood, where he was shown using an e-cigarette.

The NHRC also ordered action against the producers of the series and streaming platform Netflix for broadcasting the scene. In addition, it issued notices to the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, seeking strict measures against content that could mislead young audiences.

India enforced the e-cigarette ban law in 2019, which prohibits the production, manufacture, import, export, transport, sale, distribution, storage, and advertisement of electronic cigarettes.

Released on September 18, The Bads of Bollywood features Lakshya, Bobby Deol, and Sahher in lead roles, along with cameo appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Tollywood director S.S. Rajamouli.
