The recently released film Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni and produced by Vishwa Prasad, is running successfully with strong box office collections. In an interview with GreatAndhra, Karthik Gattamneni opened up about his motivation behind making the film and the creative process involved.
Clarifying his shift from cinematography to direction, Karthik said, “I didn’t become a director because I felt I wasn’t getting enough credit as a DOP. I chose to direct this film because it was a story I couldn’t tell as a cinematographer.”
He revealed that the concept of Mirai took shape during a trip to Rameswaram. “Certain emotions I experienced during that journey sparked the idea. As I researched further, I came across a book about the nine books of Ashoka. I don’t know whether it’s factual or not, but it had a deep impact on me. To resolve the conflict in the story, I traced it back to the era of Rama,” he explained.
Speaking about the title, he said, “We considered several options, but none of them sounded right. ‘Mirai’ is a Japanese word meaning ‘future,’ and I liked the way it sounded. Since I’ve known Teja Sajja for a long time, I always wanted to do this film with him. After nearly four to five years, it has finally taken shape.”
