In a big setback to Moists, Central Committee member and Most Wanted Maoist Pothu Kalpana alias Sujatakka surrendered before the Telangana police. There is a reward of Rs. 1 crore against her. She hails from Gadwal area and is currently the only woman leader in the Maoist party’s central committee.
Moreover, Sujatakka is the wife of Maoist key party leader Kishanji, who was killed in an encounter in West Bengal in 2011. She married Kishanji in 1984. She is currently the in-charge of the Chhattisgarh South Sub-Zonal Bureau and an accused in 106 cases.
DGP Jitender revealed the details of Sujatakka’s surrender. She said that her hometown is Penchikalapadu in Gattu mandal of Gadwal district. She had initially worked in the RSU and Jana Natya Mandali and served as a commander in 1996. She worked as a member of the state committee in 2001.
“Sujatakka came out due to health reasons. We will give her a reward of Rs. 25 lakh. We are inviting the Maoists to come into the mainstream of public life. Last year, 22 Maoists were killed in an encounter in the state. Many Maoists are already surrendering. They are coming out to protect themselves in view of Operation Khagar,” DGP Jitender said.
DGP Jitender said that 22 Maoists were killed in encounters in the state last year and 10 people have been killed in various encounters so far this year. He said that talks were held in the past too, but no progress was made. The DGP expressed happiness that they are coming for talks to protect themselves in view of Operation Khagar.
Intelligence DG Shivdhar Reddy said that there are currently 73 Maoists in the Telangana state committee. Out of them, 11 are from the state and 62 are from other states. He said that if there are cases against surrendered Maoists in other states, they will talk to them. He explained that he would like to treat surrendered Maoists with sympathy.
